Show CORINNE TO HAVE 00 DISTRICT A k meeting was held at the central hotel at corinne last thursday the ath dinst that has a good deal of significance ance there were between thirty and forty farmers and business men present who are enthusiastic supporters of the proposed drainage district la in course of organization this dealu age district is being organized for the pur purpose lirse of reclaiming the extensive agricultural lands in the vicinity of corinne that foursome for some some time past have been rendered bendere d by too much water and insufficient drainage attorney brayton braton 0 of salt lake city avas present and explained the ilig new new drainage law which law by the way has recently been passed upon by supreme court 0 of upstate state and declared constitutional talks jan on the subject of drainage and the organization of this district were made by the chairman n of the meeting mee tini mr C G adney and andal al 60 soby by engineer W al bostaph of og den and a number of others it developed that a considerable area of ian land d not included in the original pe which has been presented to the doard board of county commissioners yas was found to be susceptible of drainage u under n flotho the new system and nd the owners own ers are anxious to be included A commit ade efe consisting of sylvester owen s J Y ferry and E W dunn was appointed to confer with all aIl those washingto wishing to become annexed to this district and also to I 1 provide i i ways and means incidental to meeting the preliminary expenses of the organization the area embraced in the origin al district comprises about eions of land lying west of Corinne and south of the S P railway when the land lying north or of the railroad that Is to be included in in the new di districts district js is brought brouil it in this district will ivill comprise somewhere in the neighborhood of fourteen thousand acres there has been enough drainage work done by private enterprise to determine that the scheme is no longer experimental but Is practical to a degree gr oe that was not dreamed of by those who commenced years ago with experiments this land that Is now being brought under the drainage system Is very very good land very fertile and productive duc tive in tact fact a considerable ahei area of it was chosen by the original company 2 yu apo tho river to establish f aci A they naturally choose what they would be among the best lands that they had but thru the aver over use of water and the lack of drainage facilities tile alkali was attracted to the surface and has destroyed to a great extent the productivity of abe land there will be a remarkable transformation in in that region before very long in connection with this matter it is only fair to say that mr air E IV dunn who is a prominent booster in this we may call it the comp com pleon Wion of the system was the originator of the idea which is now crystallized into law being a member of the utah development league the question of reclaiming land was brought up and mr air dunn suggested that a law be worked for that would eliminate the difficulties encountered by the cra inage districts that had heretofore been organized in this county particularly in rawlins there were some things about those precincts and along the iowa string organizations that were not constitutional and his idea was wa that lt if a law could be dratted drafted that wads was constitutional it would be a vaa benefit b to this part of the country when the organization is finaly finally completed we shall have more to say as to the history of it as well as the benefits to tie be derived |
