fourof Gunnison Valley EMT’s totaling 21 years volunteer services of teaching emergency care scouting training both night and day caring dependence beepers were asked to leave Gunnison EMT Dept because they did not believe as the new dept head and administrator believed These four EMT’s made a stand with a written letter to their hospital board to state problems with the ambulance service and to bring the service back up to the high standards of care equal to what the state of Utah deemed legal They followed proper procedure as stated in the You And The Gunnison Hospital Rules We believed that proper patient care with proper and safe was the first line of equipment business when caring for the ill or that each WE believed injured patient deserved the best equipment including the amount in minimum that the state of Utah the minimum the best upkeep of the ambulance most current training including recertification in CPR and EMT when expired and any training needed to keep current in trauma care the patient care Always As a should be the first concern trained EMT we are taught that the in the them has alot patient against first place Adding poor response lack of time turned off beepers lack of updated patient supplies care poor attitude hard feeling or arrogance only adds to the patients problems These four EMT’s wanted things to be legal and wanted the patient to receive the best possible care they could receive They have given up many hours away from home in training and expense from their own wages They sacrificed home life holidays and many hours of free vacation volunteer time to teach and give to to their community knowledge improve the care here in this Gunnison Valley They care about you in 1985 the EMT Dept at Gunnison was left open without leadTheir training officer Mitzi ership Fuller along with Dirk Jensen Marty Christensen and Suzanne Covington with Mitzi at the lead pulled together and created a working functioning All EMT’s were workdepartment ing together for one cause worked Marty Christensen long and hard pulling the Level of service from a basic unit to an IV certified unit This was an asset to It made it possible the community by the ok from the area Doctors that if needed an IV could be started in the field to assist anyone needing this Because the Gunnison Valley DcpL head and administrator did not feel this service was needed Gunnison ambulance is now back to a basic unit One of our doctors felt this was alright because not enough lives were saved with IV’s in the field We EMT’s felt that if only one life was saved the time and money was well spent in training and keeping the level of IV current One life was saved just this past summer by an IV being started in the field in In the board meeting march the Gunnison Board was informed about a Pediatric Grant that had been decided not to be utilized by After discussion about the Hospital the grant with the EMT’s present Mardell Jensen along with
