Show 2 The Gunnison UP&L & Valley News Wed August 26 1987 PacifiCorp announce merger UP&L had 586 million shares of common stock outstanding as of June 30 1987 As a result of the merger Utah Power and Light shareholders wold own about 40 percent common equof the outstanding ity of PacifiCorp at the time the transaction closes Under the merger Utah Pow- Utah Power and Light Co and they PacifiCorp have announced have signed a definitive merger agreement Under the agreement each share of UP&L common stock will be exchanged for PacifiCorp common stock with a value of at least $3225 per share and a maximum of $38 per share The merger is subject to of each approval by shareholders approvals regulatory company and other conditions Thanks for a job well done now the work begins Political or reasonable hate or love ready or not the decision to place the Regional Prison facility in Gunnison has been made And the majority of people at least in this area are elated The process was long and even tedious as information was gathered and put on paper and then presented to building board officials that would make the final decision ultimately Deepest appreciation needs to be expressed to a few min leaders l‘fkS: Mayor Bruce Blackharh Economic' Committee members Development Richard Dyreng and Bruce King and to you the public who overwhelmingly supported the proposed industry for Gunnison The trail to success was not al rosey and we hope that most of the questions (at least all of those that could) were answered We covered many of’ the informational meetings held and both the positive and negative points being mentioned No one has all the answers but feel that most points were covered as we tried to keep the Valley's residents informed don ' don't know if you were as skeptical as was but even after the announcement was made from Cedar City still couldn't believe that we had been chosen In fact it has been so ong since we have seen growth in this area that - is hardto remember what it is like to think positive Now that the decision has been reached more and more work will need to be accomplished by you and The cities of Gunnison and Centerfield will be impacted the greatest and it zoning laws road commitments water and sewer expansions and business districts will need future plans set and activated Future planning for any city iswhattakestime and openmindedness and volunteers One last point that needs to be made We live in a land ruled by a democratic system which allows for the majority to rufe think it is evident that the majority the vast majority desires the economic benefits whether or not the accompaning lifestyles are pro or con of the prison appreciate that every rock has not been turned as information is gathered and reviewed concerning the prison but would hope that when negative points are discussed that they be valid And to go along with this point hope all points of view that haven't already been considered be scrutinized to insure that what is best for the majority goes forth Don't sit back!
