dinner at Higgins Catering last Monday evening Some of the couples have recently been released after serving several years This month’s dinner meeting was arranged and hosted by Mr and Mrs Clive Despain of Centerfield The marriage of Mr and Mrs Lance Schmeder (the former Karen Barlow) valley native was solomnized Saturday September 25th in the Salt Lake Temple Karen is the daughter of former Stake President and Mrs Alvin Barlow now of Hunter Utah Col Blaine Anderson a valley native from Mayfield and a worker in the Salt Lake Temple performed the ceremony Mr and Mrs Schmeder live in Long Beach where Karen is a in teacher the California Lance is in college schools there Besides members of family and relatives and friends in the Hunter area those attending were: Mrs Baline Anderson former Fayette native Mrs Roy Jones (Gwenevere Lase daughter of Mr and Mrs George Lase Gunnison) Mr and Mrs also Avery Beck Bountiful former valley residents and Mr and Mrs Clive Despain Centerfield This happy occasion was climaxed with all guests and wedding party enjoying a dinner hosted by Karen's parents at the Ming Cafe in Granger Mr and Mrs Clive Despain Centerfield were in Bountiful Saturday and Sunday to enjoy the baptisim and confirmation of another grandson Gregory Philip Despain He is the son of Philip and Donna George Despain all of Bountiful He war baptized and confirmed by his father assisted by his grandfather Clive Despain and Uncles David Despain Bountiful Eric Despain Salt Lake City and John Callis Sandy A dinner for the whole family was hosted by his father at his home Sunday afternoon Mr and Mrs Eric Despain hosted another feast for all family members in honor of Gregory and also to celebrate Eric's birthday The Artopic Literary Club of Centerfield and Gunnison was entertained for their September meeting by Mrs Ralph (Maida) A Bardsley of Centerfield lovely hot dinner was enjoyed by 12 members at the Higgins Catering in Gunnison After dinner they enjoyed hearing about summer activities and travel of club members and installing officers for the coming year is the new Vonda Bogh President Celia Jensen Vice President Lucille Buchanan Sec and Wilma Despain reporter The outgoing officers were thanked for a wonderful year and lovely summer party This group of women have sponsored many fund raising projects in the past and kept the “well baby” clinic going for years Mr and Mrs Alvin Jensen Axtell returned last weekend from visiting their grandchildren Mr and Mrs Bruce Lambson and family in Idaho and in LaGrande Oregon where they visited their childrn Mr and Mrs Vernile Fjeldsted and also Mr and Mrs Glen Larson On their return home they visited with their children Bishop and Mrs Wayne Nielsen and family in Bountiful Inez Calvin and Ivan Squire recently returned from an extended trip through some of the northern and eastern states Visiting and toruing places of interest in Washington DC Baltimore and New York City They went through the new Smithsonion buildings of the Institute also the Washington Temple the Hershey Chocolate World which is like another Disneyland They spent two days in New York City taking a sightseeing bus tour of the down town and uptown areas of the city and a boat ride across the harbor to the Statue of Libirity They also saw China Town the Metropolitan Musum of Arts several famous churches the Empire State Building etc The George Washington is of one the most Bridge beautiful bridges in the world It spans the mighty Hudson from upper Manhattan to the New Jersey side With two levels and 14 traffic lanes it is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world At night it is lit up like a string of pearls Not far from it is the famous Brooklyn Bay Bridge which took 14 years to build They also traveled up around the Great Lakes on their way home Betty Cummings Las Vegas visited here in Gunnison with her parents Mr and Mrs John Ault With her was her fiance Don Vananese
