Show Sanpete County Sales Nearly 15 Million The total volume of business In Sanpete County during 1969 that was subject to the sales and use tax amounted to $14911000-Thiwas reported In a special study prepared by Utah Foundation the private research organization According to the report the volume of business activity In Sanpete County rose 335 since 1965 and 49 since 1963 This compares with Increases of 27 since 1965 and 37 since 1963 for the state as a whole The Foundation report lists total sales volumes In 1969 and "business activity Indexes" duringtheperiodl960throughl969 for 27 of the counties and 22 selected cities throughout the state One of the Important findings revealed by the Foundation study is that business has been moving away from central business districts to decentralized suburban shopping areas For example the report notes that business volume in Salt Lake City proper rose business only 20 since 1965 and 36 since 1960 By comparison growth in the unincorporated portions of Salt Lake County amounted to 32 since 1965 and 158 since 19601n the fast growing suburban the Increase since 1965 has been 80 and community of Murray since 1960 It has amounted to 190 Foundation analysts note that the total volume of sales subject to the sales tax in Utah amounted to $2253000000 in 1969 Approximately $1230000000 or 55 of this total occurred in Salt Lake County with Salt Lake City proper accounting for or 32 of the total volume in the state $719000000 The study Indicates that in some of the smaller counties and an unusual municipalities development can produce wide fluctuations In the sales volume data which are used to compute the business activity Index When Flaming Gorge Dam was constructed for example Daggett County reported an unusually high level of business activity This dropped dramatically however after the dam was completed and conditions returned more to normal Inflation has been an Important factor in the increased volume of sales throughout the state during the past decade The study shows that total sales in Utah rose 27 since 1965 and 58 since 1960 When adjustments are made for the reduced purchasing power of the dollar however the increase amounted toonlyl0 since 1965 and 27 since 1960 The following tabulation shows the total volume of gross sales in Utah during the years 1960 through 1969 along with unadjusted and adjusted business activity indexes for the state as a whole: BUSINESS ACTIVITY INDEX Laier Laier son of Mr and Mrs Gall In Salina On Sunday the at the Voorhees home were Mr and Mrs Don
