funds to bring them to an adequate state is questionable ALTERNATIVE B - Mrs Bench and three Marilou and 29th from their home in Hidden Hills California for a visit with Mrs Bench's father C E Andersen and brothers Mr and Mrs Roger Andersen and Mr and Mrs Keith Andersen They were joined July 4th by Dr Bench and the family were joined by the Roger Andersens and C E Andersen on a vacation trip to the midwest CONSOLIDATION -- NOT RECOMMENDED The possibility of a consolidated central program at the is not feasible at this time because secondary level (grades of the limited amount of bonding power possessedby the district for the construction of new facilities trends continue consolidation If the enrollment may be forced In order to provide an adequate educational program at the present time none of the existing facilities However to consolidation efforts lend themselves nor does the district possess the financial capacity to provide the necessary facilities for consolidation FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS If the enrollment trends continue and declire in enrollment while the assessed valuation increases the district should continue to asses its situation The possibility of new facilities and a central secondary program (grades when and if the declining enrollment levels off and funds become available should be considered seriously by the district If trends continue this may not be feasible for at least 10 years If the enrollment trend changes enrollment increases and funds become available as a result of growth and prosperity the district should carefully consider consolidating the secondary in a location reasonably program (grades close to the growth area In the district Prior to a district consolidation decision in either of the above situations a study of both SouthSanpeteand North Sanpete School Districts should be conducted to determine the advisability of county consolidation In summary careful planning and assess ment on a basis is essential If the Board of Education is to meet its commitment of providing the best possible educational program with the resources available for the children of South Sanpete School District persists Study Plan Culminated - - - USU (Continued from page 1) ary level 2 grades Increased utilization of existing school facilities 3 Closing a portion of one facility and tearing down three facilities should result In a savings to general operations budget 4 Better and more efficient use of teacher talent by inof teachers teaching in the area of creasing the possibility and a possible specialization decrease in tho amount of multiple preparations 5 Grade level continuity except for kindergarten at Manti 6 low expenditure of capital outlay funds Relatively 7 Improved safety conditions for students 8 Staggered school time schedule could result in more efficient use of district buses 9 Reduce crowded site conditions at Manti 10 Possible use of space on the main floor of Manti Elementary for an audio visual required for renovation of existing shop facility at Ephraim" 7 Requires extremely high building utilization of Gunnison High School facility Seminary classes will relieve some of the pressure however it is feasible (if an actual overflow does exist) to handle the overflow in Gunnison Elementary School ditional 2 APPROXIMATE COSTS The major portion of the cost Involved in Plan I is for the of the shop facility at Ephraim renovation there would be little or no cost Involved in the destruction of the buildings to be destroyed as they may be removed for salvage The following Is a summary of approximate costs to this plan: Remodel Ephraim Shop Facility $6000000 Furniture and redecorating 6000 sq ft at $10square foot Tear down old shop building at Manti and remove for salvage $ 100000 Tear Improvement $1500000 Total Cost $8375000 FIRST OPTION TO PLAN I The option to Plan I Involves approximately the same organization except that the Ephraim shop facility would not be renovated or used Grades would be maintained in the Manti Elementary If the enrollment trend continues facility as room is made available over the next years these elementary grades would be moved to Ephraim This would result In an approximate savings of $60000 as compared to what is proposed in Plan I SECOND OPTION TO PLAN The children and grandchildren of Evan and Ellen Wilson held a reunion July 5 and 6 at the home of Mrs Marjorie Sandstrom of Centerfield were present Attending were relatives from Michigan Wyoming Idaho Moab Sunset California Roy Tooele and Gunnison Valley and one guest from Pennsylvania be incorporated either with or separately from the first option to Plan I The steps are somewhat similar however the following actions differ from those in Plan 1: House grade in Gunnison Valley High I however lend themselves as readily to program adaptation which may result In additional remodeling costs in Manti and Gunnison High School facilities The following alternatives are not recommended are possible options for Board consideration JAY’S MARKET NOT RECOMMENDED MANTI Maintain existing class organization Tear down the old shop building now used for storage Remedy hazardous conditions site Remedy hazardous site conditions maintenance on the high school site 3 conditions and Improve Remedy existing hazardous facilities as recommended In the section on facilities Tills alternative is not recommended for the following’ reasons: It would not Improve the equality breadth or depth of program offerings 2 It would require a substantial expenditure of funds divided between so many speak you might hear something like this: "Please don’t cut me so short! It hurts me Do you want me to get thinner and thinner and weaker and weaker and have lots of' ugly weeds? Or do you want me' to thrive and look pretty? “Mother Nature intended that I should grow tall and produce' seed But I’ll agree that if I did that I wouldn’t be a nice green carpet or a rug for recreation" Trimming me is okay if you just don’t cut all my leaves off right down to the quick Don’t you know that my leaves feed my roots? The amazing process of photosynthesis takes place in my leaves The energy and light from the’ soil and the air are combined to make starches and sugars which I use as food to keep me alive and help me grow “My leaves are my manufacturing plant so to speak If you keep me cut too short my total leaf surface will be so small that I won’t have enough capacity to make plant food and I will starve and get weak However if you will adjust your mower to trim me at' a height of 12 to 2 inches and watered and keep me properly fertilized I can thrive be lush and green and make you happy When I am strong I also can with weeds and keep compete them out “After all I am not something to be subdued but need to be nurtured and cared for If you must insist on cutting me so short it might be better to dig me up cover the area with concrete and paint it green Shop at Home The Smokey 8 held a meeting June 25th at Brad Jensen's house We began our meeting at 3:00 Lois Sorenson said the prayer Dell Sorenson led us in the Pledge of Allegiance Perry led us in the Pledge and Douglas said the motto We cooked chili and made biscuits on a stick We had celery cake and milk to drink pickles We all had a good time and adjourned at 4:30 Brad Jensen on “How gave a demonstration to build a log cabin fire" however This plan Involves a holding operation with continuing to sites and buildings The following actions improvement are essential to Improve conditions but they do not alter program organization EPHRAIM Maintain existing class organization 2 Remodel and Improve existing facilities in the section on facilities Sanpete Junior Livestock Show Dinners Announced Winners of the Sanpete Junior Livestock Show were presented at Debbie Hone's place at 2:00 at the Dairy Princess Banquet Opening prayer by Linda Barney held Monday night at the Ephraim by Joan Pledge of Allegiance West Ward LDS Church They are Nay Pledge by Ruby Buchanan Safety and Health report by as follows said Ted Thompson chairman Lorna Westlund Marla Jensen L G Anderson of Gunnison Fitting and Showmanship: gave a report on fruits Lorna Westlund led us in "Home On underwent surgery at the VeterSheep -
