Fish & Game Assn Elects Murray - 11 16 38-2- 7. Paul CbbHdds se-r.- PER YEAR Officers Ray Kerr was president of the Payson Fish and Game Protective Association at the annual election of officers held in the Legion Hall, Tuesday evening. J. H. Ellsand worth was elected nt Earl Cole secretary-treasure- r. The board of control, formerly consisting of three members, was changed by a vote of the association to a committee of four. L. P. Vickers, Stan Douglass, Paul Davis and Len Snelson were elected as members for the ensuing year. The local association has organized as a body to oppose the proposed seining law, now before the state legistlature. This proposal, if made law, will permit commercial seining in Utah Lake which will eventually destroy the spawning grounds of the game fish. The association has also protested the proposal pending in the house p regarding the transfering of the of the fish and game of the state to the Fish and Game Department. The department is unable to handle the expenses involved in enforcing the game laws of the state, which will eventually mean that the laws will be left open for violation and it will be merely a matter of years until the state will be depleted of its big game. own-ersho- Meeting The annual Stockholders meeting of the Strawberry Water Users Association was held Saburday at the Junior high school with a large delegation in attendance from all units of the project. Dr. A. L. Curtis, president of the board was in charge of the meeting which lasted for more than seven hours with several additional hours for the tellers to determine the results of the elect- ion. Reports were submitted by all officers of the organization including the financial report and the budget for the coming year given by E. G. Breeze, secretary-treasure- The r. re- port showed that a reduction of 40 had been made in operation for a five year period. A heated discussion followed the report and the stockholders voted to reduce the budget and to cut all salaries which had not been previously cut. An assessment of 15 cents per acre foot was levied for operation and maintenance. A plan was discussed for setting the grazing fees in Strawberry valley and in the plan adopted the grazing fees will fluctuate with the price of wool. To illustrate, ten cent wool would be a 30 cent grazing fee and each cent added on wool would add two cents on the grazing fee. A resolution was passed to ask the Department of Interior to write off permanently from the construction und enough money to offset the deficiency in water supply, tho supply being 6000 acre feet short. This together with errors in construction should justify a write off. Papers have already been sent to Washington asking that fl, 000, 000 be written off from construction. It was also proposed to petition the Department of Interior to ask them to accept the net returns from the grazing and power funds as the annual construction bill so that individual water users would not have to pay any more on construction charges. This would mean an extension of time or 15 to 20 years longer to make payment It was also decided and a resolution passed that the number of directors on the board be reduced from 16 to seven to take effect at the next annual meeting and distributed as follows: one director each for Genola, west of Payson, east of Salem, Springville - Mapleton, East of Spanish Fork, west of Span- n' , Pay-so- n, ish Fork. A real fight developed in the election of four board members, with one vote for each share of stock. A. R. Creer of Spanish Fork was voted In by acclamation; Dr. A. L. Curtis with 25,021.16 defeated I. M. Draper of Genola with 22,584.98; Walter Ludlow of Benjamin with 36,980. 43 votes defeated George F, Wilson, incumbent, with 11,748.17 votes Albert Swenson with 36,235.81, defeated Flint Dixon with 12,195.84 He replaces R. H. Jex, Sr. of Spanish Fork. -- - - o Annual Junior Prom To Be Held Friday The annual Payson High School Junior Prom, sponsored by the Junior class, will be given Ton Friday February 3. at the Bon The hall has been beautifully decorated for this event which is the outstanding school activity of the year.
