I remember how I used to abhor English. I would do anything to escape writing themes or compositions. One day a class assignment was made possibilities. There are times when I thoroughly enjoy being miserable. I have been told that I have a strange philosophy of life because it is made up of not things like being miserable and wanting sympathy. I was once told by a famous philwe osopher that there is a price time one At for everything. must pay I did not believe this, now I am not so sure. Let us say that wo are camped m the mountains. In the nmrning th sun floods the sky with crimson and gold. It shades the canyons with purple and grey. We merely laise our eyes to look upon this beauty. In the high of noonday heat we quench our thirst with sparkling water from a crystal spring. Surely we pay no price for these? But we learn to love the f of the morning sun or the sweet f the clear canyon spring. Sometime we must return to the smoky' cities or the dusty valleys. We must drink water less cool and refreshing. Be cause we have reclined in the shade the glaring heat of the sun seems more burining and hot. This, small as it may seem, is the price we must pay. This is why I can sometimes enjoy being miserable. If I can enjoy bein miserable I can delight at being contented. If I can enjoy being miserable I will not chafe at being horrible. But even then I cannot escape foi there is a price I must pay. e, tie-o- On Route -- v wimm.mi a between. chicp&q, m n. . JT,day School. It was one of those games in which the cards are played from the hand onto the table and tho points taken are held against the player. Instead of there being a winner there is a loser. A score was being kept and at the close of each hand the player having the highest score against him or her held the interest of all the players for the moment while it was being recorded. Even during the game the loser was the most interesting player. There was once a Fritisher, Sir Thomas Lipton, who used to come to America every year and enter his boat in the yacht races. Every year he finished a loser. At the moment I cant recall a single winner, but I will never forget this veteran loser. William Jennings Bryan ran for president of the United States four times. Each time he was a loser. Many of our presidents, even those who ran against him, are being forgotten. William Jennings Bryan has become immortal. It is not the winning nor the losing that counts. Great men have been known to fail; uheard of men have been known to succeed. I love to win, but it sometimes thrills me to lose.
