Those were Christian clergThey were clergyymen mind you too men who make a living presumably preaching the message of that same Christ who commanded the winds and waves to be quiet who walked upon water and who commanded even death This same Christ whom these learned men pretend to explain and even to represent is also declared to have stated that anything is possible“ to the one who has sufficient faith verily I say unto you if ye have faith as of a grain of mustard seed ye shall say unto this mountain Remove hence to yonder place and it shall revove and nothing shall be impossible unto you” Now was it not unfortunate that the master did not say something specific relative to bringing rains by means of prayer? We have so little call to move mountains around you know Even when they are in the way they are rather atrain tractive But we do so often “to maintain present American living Min of P Lemon standards” as Dr W neapolis put it it would take away sion To profess to be a Christian and deny the power of faith and prayer or the mercy and omnipotence of God is more ridiculous than pretending to be a loyal American citizen while denying the right of the government to levy a tax issue a license regulate social conduct or condition personal liberty A respectable peace loving person does hate a fuss and the fuss that attended the passing of the Volstead act was enough to last us for a long time Consequently we are content to have improved things a little bit and let it go at that for a while SMELLS AND REFLECTIONS We couldn’t help it if we smelled something we ought not to have smelled on the breaths of some of the fine young men who were at the high school to register last Friday But we did so fuss occa- The desire for money is so strong it overcomes the few scruples that certain of our fellow men may have and as a result they stew and stir and in one way and another way concoct the various sorts of rust remover that promise an easy way to a good time Just like the magic of the primitive witches And so it will continue to be very likely until our civilization grows up Do you think that will ever be?
