2:00 pm Millard County Fair Building - Delta Furchan shillicamillaiikr Ad Drimn Maim mutt First Saturday Knapp In Great Basin Museum 328 W 200 N Delta 10 a m - 4 Pffswimtt for Seniors p m Tuesday - Friday I unch at Paheant Senior Center Fillmore noon Feery other 4th Tuesday Social Sere ice Rep Della City Offices Tuesday Mobile Mammography Unit Della Comimmitv Medical Center Call 864 W hat has happened to politics in Millard County? am seriously distressed about our legislative District 68 campaign Never in the thirty years that have lived in Millard County have observed anything like this here didn't even know who our current representative at the legislature was got on the state government website and found out it was a gentleman named Brad urn The site had his phone number so called Mi W inn and asked if he was running I just wanted to be as informed as I could be for had no agenda didn't know either Mr Phillips or Mr Winn am however a Republican so wanted to Warn about our seated Republican representative to see if could feel He offered to come to Oak City and meet with me good about supporting him and any others who might be interested that week We met for over two hours we asked many questions talked about issues and concerns in our community Because personally felt that Mr Winn was a good and honest human being who was trying to work within the legislative system to help those he serves decided to support him as a candidate had no idea when I got involved what was about to happen to politics in Millard County have been involved in campaigns here before but have never seen anything like this Brad Winn has placed ads in our county paper telling about himself his family his interests his concerns his legislative experience etc He has opened up himself as any candidate for either party would For some inconceivable reason Mr Phillips has chosen to bring national mudslinguig style politics into our back yards find it to be sad and troubling His last three ads in the paper have been calculated to cast aspersions on Mr Winn personally I'm sure Mr Phillips has enough personal virtues that he could find plenty of good things to say about himself without having to sling mud and insults know that this is usual in national campaign politics but we at his opponent are an “unusual" community comprised of neighbors associates friends and relatives People in Millard County still try to be kind and helpful to each other and supportive when difficult things happen We want our community to be different from where the world is going hat ever happened to giving the option of two good people running for office who put their best foot forward throw their hat in the ring extol their ideas and then let the people decide? noticed that not one of our candidates for school hoard or the county commission have felt the need to run an “attack” style campaign thank them for that it’s easy to make a statement in a newspaper that tells only part of the story sounds alarming and sways voters “National style journalism" tells part of the truth and lets people think the worst If you are concerned about accusatory statements Mr Phillips has made in his articles call Mr Winn and ask him about them I did and I found him to be the kind of man who will answer your questions honestly without feeling the need to bash his opponent assume Mr Phillips is a good and decent person I cannot fathom w hy he has taken such an approach In his announcement of candidacy in the Chronicle in March he stated “1 have the desire the time the experience and the know ledge to represent and serve the citizens of District 68 well” it is my opinion that introducing ugly mudslinging politics into our comer of the world neither represents how we are OR serves us well so hope this has not set a precedence of how politics will now be conducted in our part of the planet Thank you Wa Nielson 5 2008 Businesses Friday unch What has happened to politics in Millard County?
