Although Delta has one of the better teams in they could not beat the Souring Eagles with their mighty Rabbit strength and fell to Juan Diego's passing and defensive skills Dayton De Loach was the only Rabbit able to score but other big players were Nick Nissen playing defense and offensive tackle and Wyatt Wanuck playing quarter back Numerous Ians watched from the stadium while news crews prowled around on the sidelines in one of the most anticipated games in Many people predicted how the final score Wyart Wanuck said “We did great the w we first but came hen hall out in to play in the second half the tables were turned on Delta and Juan Diego We are got the momentum coming back next week and we'U Jo what we have to in the playoffs” Darbm Nedsoa said the Juan Diego's whole offensive line was tough and their line men were good at making the boles that the running backs needed Something Delta needs to work on is wrapping up on their tackles and gening a little more conditioned so they can run people down The Juan Diego runner that made the run for a touchdown placed third in region in the 100 meter dash Neilson who was chasing him down during the football game took fourth just another one of those “It's a small world after all" moments if you know what I'm saying and will host the Delta is now first playoff game in Xtlta on Saturday at I 00 against I'nion Delta played them at the first of the season with a final The Indian Summer being experienced in Millard County kails one to wonder what will come this winter The Old Farmer's Almanac has a high degree of accuracy in its forecasts This is what it has to say about the Intermountain region for late 200 and in to 2000: W inter will be much colder and drier than normal on average with snow frill above normal in the north and below normal in the south The coldest temperatures will occur in late December early mid- - and Late January and early February The snowiest periods will be in early and mid- - and late January and late February April and May will normal with slightly be cooler than precipitation Summer will be cooler than normal rainfall with slightly The hottest periods will be in late June and early and mul- - to late July September and October will be warmer and drier than normal The Almanac's detailed forecast for our region is as follows: November 2008 Avg Temperature: 30° (avg ) Precipitation I" (05" below avg ) Nov Sunny mild Rain and snow then Nov showers seasonable Rain and snow then Nov sunny mild Nov Scattered rain and snow showers seasonable Good times bad times there will always be advertising In good bmes people want to advertise in bad tmes they have Bruce Barton to have learned: by Steve Maxfield Candidate for Millard County Commissioner Getting into a fight is not the only way to skm our knuckles knocking enough doors has the same results with the added benefit of meeting the salt of the earth In plain English the People of this County know what their needs are and how to accomplish that task better than any bureaucrat regardless of party affiliation I am a little disappointed at the lack of questions at the Meet your Candidate meetings this week was looking forward to a thorough grilling However there was little if any questions directed at the Commission race I do not claim to have all the answers I know together we can address all of the issues facing this County The Commission race in my opinion is the most important race facing the citizens of Millard County Local government can be the most restrictive and damaging to our freedoms or they can work m synergy with the People creating ultimate liberty The failure of any meaningful questions leads me to two possible conclusions There is a belief neither candidate is qualified or able to perform the task or we are afraid to ask the questions we already know the answers to After knocking many doors I have come to the conclusion that it is the latter For those whose door I have not knocked on yet I will respond briefly to the bullet points provided by Bart Whatcott in the Meet the Candidate debates as had been printed in his ad in the Chronicle Progress October What T ask TorThe readers is to closely examfne "bxifh'candtdites'The deHsToiTyduTruke is profound as the divergent responses below At the ballot box you will determine who you believe or feel is the best qualified candidate to be the next Commissioner This can only be done after you determine who can best serve the immediate and future needs of Millard County ' Leadership: I learned that both my opponent and started out in Private Industry In particular the auto industry However Bart then “came home" to serve with the National Guard for 30 years however remained in private industry Auto Dealerships Body Shops automotive consultant v olunteered to help a startup foundation for homeless women and children helped form Attorneys’ Investigative sen ices inc provided expert witness testimony testified before the legislature formed citizens groups assisted with Stephen Pratt's Liberty and Learning as his pro bono web master consulted with both sides m the Sevier Power Plant issue and even predicted Judge Wallace A Lee’s decision would be overturned because the Judge “spoon fed the appeal” In plain English he knew it would be overturned It is one thing to follow the direction of others It is simply another to forge a new path feel privileged to have the opportunity to follow m some great footsteps I have two political heroes One is a former Legislamre and Senator that is a new arrival to Millard County Bill Wright The other is Current Commissioner John Cooper My respect goes not out to their political affiliation but their affiliation w ith the people and the issues It was not about conservatism and liberalism but about rig! it and wrong It did not matter if you liv ed in their district or ev en in their state If the fight w as just they w ould fight the battle w ith you I have demonstrated leadership and the ability to stand up to Big Business Big Government and Big Water grabs It is one thing to care about the quality of life it is another to look at what has made this County great what changes have been made and identify the role we play in the solution was asked recently “If you are elected as commissioner w hat can you do to provide recreation for my children so they don’t get bored and do drugs?" We can not negate our personal responsibilities to government business or religion Many solutions begin and end with me In ray community I am forming a community based intervention group to tackle the problem of blatant re offenders of the justice system It is a community based solution that identified a problem and placed the responsibility back at our feet to solve it We can not always blame the Sheriff s office or the Courts if we fail to engage While everything is not in the scope of the County Commissioner as a Commissioner I can facilitate and encourage local non governmental solution Farming and Ranching: It is impossible to devise a solution to this problem by relying only on outside and undependable funding With the falling dollar there are opportunities for s and small independent owners expansion in goods that are produced locally consumed locally and even exported to the world markets I have been encouraged at the recent return to working together for mutual benefit Water for Recreation: Water for recreation is secondary to and is only a seasonal of senior w ater rights that belong to the fanners and ranchers of the Great Basin in w hich we live To say support Agriculture and in the next breath infer that those rights should be reevaluated is asinine Without water there is no agriculture Without agriculture there is no produce for livestock fuel or food Do not get me wrong I enjoy Gunnison Bend as well as Lake Powell but their primary function is water storage In wet years they serve dual purpose In drought they are drawn down for survival SNW-Both Mr Phillips and Mr Whatcott parroted Nev ada's and the Gov emor of Utah's position There is excess w ater on the Border and we need to equitably div ide it between the states This is not based upon hard ev idence but pure political propaganda Utah w ants a pipeline to pump Water from Lake Powell to St George and Las Vegas wants water from the Great Basin to fuel growth The fact of the matter after millions of dollars spent Dean Baker is RIGHT All w ater in the v alley has been allocated to senior historical uses There is no extra water to divide The 2007 BARCAS study found in Snake alley the Current use exceeds recharge by 21000 acre feet annually No amount of money or political posturing is going to make that mirage a reality The BLM is in the permitting process and the position is “let's split the Water 50 50” I agree however Vi of nothing is still nothing ! I have no idea what Mr Whatcott is inferring have had only one special interest group that I support and work with on a regular bases That Property rights special interest groups: is the PEOPLE unconstitutional Unless and until the people eh e the legislature the Recently the Utah Supreme Court ruled: “ Consequently we ore compelled to deem section constitutional authority to suspend or forbid the use of the initiative pov er it cannot be done by statute” I am w ith the Court on this one Infrastructure: As to the money use it up fix it up wear it out or do without Jobs: I do not buy off on the philosophy of only going after technical jobs In this market manufacturing locally produced goods used here sold here made here 1 am almost getting nostalgic Simply put “Proudly made in the USA” As we have seen at Micron giving large international corporations land and tax incentives does not always pay dividends My philosophy if it is good for the goose it is good for the gander Small business existing enterprise must have the same incentiv es and benefits The thought is Justice is blind in business government should not to pick favorites Create a level and low cost playing field and they will build do not need some large corporation locating here for more handouts at the taxpayers expense Millard County is blessed with open space and nature that you can not Rggreattpiy duplicate As a County both privately and publicly we need to capitalize on what we have Property Txyes: While we are all still upset over the recent increase to the property taxes in Millard County I would like to point out the Mr Talbot is the elected County Assessor and he is doing the best job he can under the current State Law It is not the job of a Commissioner to tell other elected officials how to do their job I recently met w ith Jim Talbot and Mark Maxfield from the State Tax Commission No one in Millard County is more upset at the State mandate to “Raise” your property than Jim is I met with Jim many times over the past several and him with the discussed years impending real estate collapse I predicted the current situation Mainly this is a State issue and Jim is caught in the middle If you want it to be fair as citizens we need to run a Proposition 13 like California that sets value at the time of purchase As a Commissioner I support the Assessor’s office If they would have chosen to reject the State mandate as a Commissioner I would have supported Jim in that decision and asked the other commissioners to join the fight as they have done in the past on issues like putting out the Milford Flat fire Budget I applaud the current Commission’s fiscal discipline They have reduced costs in my estimation by over million dollars This was accomplished by nearly $800000 on one line item alone For a County of 14000 that is commendable The fact of the matter is revenue is shrinking We must be forward thinkers Eventually everything old is new again What is true for bell bottoms also holds true for economics In 1905 when America produced 70° of the world's goods the cost to run the Government was $5 per $100 Today it is at least $65 per $100 before the bailout If we can look forward using the past as an example we can reduce the cost of Government this will increase the opportunity to produce American goods and become competitive locally and globally Do not loose your Voice Make a Great Choice!
