to ee objects that were somewnat hidilen from us during the months of June and July We will most likely see some conjunctions of the planets as well as a more interesting display of them as weiL It is here that it might be a great time to break out the binoculars and any small telescope that you might have put away for the summer months First of aiL if we look to our southwest we start to see a gathering of the planets like the brlhunt Venus that will gleam at magnitude 3 8 and if we watch more closely during these twe weeks we will see that Saturn will close within one degree (two full moon diameters) of ReguJus in the constellation of Leo “The Lion" If you look closely you might spot the elusive pale pink color of Mercury as it rises only a short distance away from the western horizon at magnitude 0 7 It will be a bit difficult to see during the dusk of our Sun and of course Saturn will be difficult to see as it fades into the sunlight Mars will also be difficult to see as it fades early into the sunset of our Sun We will most likely have to wait a while until all of these planets will rise to our east before twilight Jupiter sal! presents the best view ever of all the planets when it rises at magnitude 2 6 and will outshine Venus once it has set to our southwest Jupiter nses into the constellanon right after sunset and will remain with us throughout most of the night However Jupiter is a bit more difficult to resolve well into a ball of light since it lies so close to the southern horizon The amount of atmospheric turbulence and low lying dust makes it an unfortunate object to observe Your best risk is to wait nil after midnight when it reaches a much better height in the sky and then try out those new eyepieces Two of the planets not often read about in this paper are that of Uranus and Neptune They are currently both visible in our southeastern sky and make for some interesting details by those owning a good pair of binoculars or a small the easiest one to observe will be Uranus located in the telescope Probably constellanon of Aquarius “The Water Hearer” Its magnitude of just 5 7 makes it look like a small background star but f you know where to look with a pair of binoculars you will see that it is unlike any star in the sky Once located you can colored try training a telescope on Uranus and make out that it is a ball Keep in mind that Uranus has a diameter of 3 1763 miles in diameter but that it is also well over 75 billion miles from our planet Earth The planet has well over 27 moons that complete orbits about the planet and they like the planet form a “bullseye" effect since Uranus is tipped sideway from our plane of view For those wanting to try finding Neptune this will offer a greater challenge F irct you must find the constellation of Capncomus “The Sea Goat" that contains no really brght stars in our southwestern horizon Then using the map below try to locate a point of fight that is merely at 8 0 magnitude This magnitude is actually 2 0 magnitudes below that of the human threshold of fight with the unaided eye With a good pair of binoculars and using the star chart provided colored ball that has a diameter of about 30778 you might see die miles but we should also keep in mind that Neptune is about 28 billion miles away It is almost twice as fur away as Uranus so we cannot expect to see much unless we use a larger telescope Today we know that ft contains well over 13 moons that encircle the planet and that it will take a large telescope to view these However it is an interesting project just trying your ability to locate these planets in our sky to a minor planet and at Finally we look at Pluto now magnitude 14 0 offers so little to see in a telescope that we often overlook its orbit in space Located in the constellation of Sagittarius this bny planet is 4 only 429 miles in diameter and lies better than billion miles away from us at this time Observing Pluto is best left to those with telescopes in the 30 inches of range’ The United States has Problems with Their Own Chemical Weapons guide about government waste neglect and Book is on opening incarceration in federal pnwn
