Show May 11 Millard by Kris Sheilds Ambulance Area County Coordinator Fillmore Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week a celebration to honor the approximately EMS providers 800000 nationwide who deliver care is scheduled for May lb-2- 2 2004 This is the thirtieth year EMS Week has been and I celebrated nationally think you’ll agree that we line come a long way in the past 30 years EMS Week is also a time when EMS crews provide vital educational materials and training to adults and children on topics such as injury prevention recognizing an emergency and what to do until the ambulance arrives This year’s EMS Week thence “EMS: There When You Need Us” emphasizes that no matter what the emergency or when it occurs EMS is there to provide immediate care and transportation EMS a public safety service is as essential as police and tire services It is recognized when one sees emergency vehicles or helicopters responding to incidents is the community but it is is fact much more It is an intricate system of agencies communiand organizations cations and transportation networks trauma systems as well as hospitals trauma centers and specialty care centers rehabilitatioxn facilities and' highly trained professionals — including volunteer and career Emerprehospital personnel gency Medical Dispatchers administranurses physicians (FGEBPgaBfDginHS 5ns EASY WERE 5® GSSSS3E & tors and the informed public tbat knows what to do in a medical Each emergency component in the EMS system has an essential job to perform as part of coordinated system of care EMS Week offers a great ogpoaunitv for us to educate a large number ofmhard County citizens about injury prevention and safety awareness For the fourth consecutive year we are devoting Millard County Ambulance-Fillmor- c will be celebrating EMS Day May 19 2004 Our efforts are combined' with Great Basin Safe Kids chapter at the Fillmore Community Medical Center Health Fair at the Fillmore Stake Center The profollowing educational grams will be taught to your children the ettire Fillmore Elm School and others that attend the health fair: the Utah State Fire Marshall’s Life Safety House provides electrical safety poison control gun safety education on bathtub and toilet safety to keep toddlers safe medication safety fire safety smoke detector importance and recognition and what to do and haw to get out of a house if it’s on fire We will have an ambulance stationed at the fair and groups of kids will be taken inside the ambulance and taught basic first aid Safe Kids will be sponsozing a bike rodeo that includes bike safety and helmets at cost ($4-8- ) The Utah Highway Patrol will demonstrate seatbelt safely wide the roll over machine Fillmore Fire Department will have a fire truck at the fair and provide tire safety Primary Children’s Medical Center will provide educational items for the kids All the school aged children going through each of these stations will have a punch card Upon ofthe stations completion their punch card will’ be entered for a drawing for a new bicycle donated by the local Safe Kids Chapter Other areas of education: Utah Co Sheriff will sponsor a booth by TAAKids radKids Inc- - is a program that helps stop the violence in children’s lives and empower them with hope acid realistic choices to escape the potential cycle of violence it their lives A car seat check point will be sponsored by Safe Kids First Aid kits will be sold at cost offeriRdlmore EMT’s will ng a free CSR course to the community To vaguer far this course find the local EMT’ sat the fair and they will sip you up Blood pressure mart rate blood glucose St oxygen will be saturation and paanphlets on all lentils- -
