Show Millard County’s m Award-Winnin- g County-Wid- Feature Publication e fKfrrft CAR-R- (Emmig PAID ''' VOLUME 26 Sort Bulk Rate US Postage ISSUE 10 March 9 2004 PO v f’ Box 609 Delta UT 84624 Newsstand Copy 25 cents Millard Post High School Helps Students Find Success in the Work Force Millard County is fortunate to have an excellent post high school program Several years ago parents of special needs students lobbied for a program where students could continue their education after the regular four years in high school were finished Two years ago the Millard Post High School was begun This is a program that allows students ages years old the choice of staying within the school system Students work on employability skills daily living skills and basic academics Their curriculum includes planning menus shopping for the groceries cooking lunch and then cleaning up afterwards They also clean their school each day Several students work at paying jobs in the community with the assistance of a Job Coach All of the businesses that employ these students are very much appreciated for their willingness to support the students as they strive to reach their full potential The Post High Students learn about contract work through their contract with the Millard Gazette to stuff the inserts for the 1800 papers each week for the East side of Millard County Even when school is not in session during vacations and on holidays — the papers must “stuffed" Everyone is expected to show up and do their part Students earn minimum wage (per hour) for their work with the Millard Gazette Some candy machines and stands were given to the Post High two years ago Many business owners let the students put their candy machines at their businessStudents es earn money by the filling candy machines businesses Woodhouse Opens on Fillmore’s Main Street You may have noticed a “new shingle has been hung” at 315 South on Fillmore’s Main Street The Woodhouse Inc Country Crafts and Treasures in business since 1989 has moved to Fillmore It is a division of Western Sky and and counting the rolling quarters Another service that the Post High School brings i to the commu-jnity is that of being able to buy Books Are Fun books Again several Enterprises owned by Jeff and Laura Wood of Hatton When you step into the new shop you will find custom wood products that include everything from grandfather clocks to wooden canoes indoor and outdoor home decor and furniture gifts from around the world children’s out door play' houses and 1 I I crafts allow the stu-- dents to come in during the lunch hour set upMieir book displays and take orders for books The students help fill the orders when the books arrive and then deliver the books We are fortunate to have these fine individuals in our community to brighten our days with their smiles and teach us with their fine examples perseverance Students: Alex Adams Alex lives in Fillmore with his parents He has an older brother and a Alex has 2 dogs He is an avid Jazz fan and Andrei Kirilenko is his favorite Alex loves school and working at Roper Lumber and Duanes Foodtown Melissa Nielsen - Melissa is from nVT' W The 33'GiKM Woodhouse f Inc also accepts consignments so if you have a product that you need an outlet for give them a at Cont pg t) y&o w on 864-331- H&R BLOCK A NAME — Shannon Robbins - Shannon lives Sutherland Shannon loves school and going home to play with her niece She enjoys watching Disney movies and using her computShannon also enjoys helping er around the house and cleaning house with her parents Shannon is generally a very happy individual Priscilla Beck - Priscilla lives in Lynndyl At home she likes to take her dog for a walk Her favorite part of school is being with the other students and the teachers Priscilla says that she has learned to be a better cook this year and likes learning skills that will help her to live more independently She likes to choose reading during breaks in v LGGfefflr aQ call - Fillmore where she lives with her parents and sister She has 2 dogs and to listen to music and watch movies She loves to work with the other students at the Post High School Melissa says she has learned more cleaning skills this year as well as more cooking skills Her favorite part of the day is when she gets to have a break and chooses to play a Harry Potter computer game Jill Nielsen - Jill is a sister to Melissa and also lives in Fillmore Jill likes to play with her dogs at home Her favorite thing to do is to go to work at Roper Lumber and First Capitol Chevron She loves to do cleaning at the school She is a super vacuum lady! likes 4 58 West Main Delta you KNOW with a GUARANTEE you TRUST!
