Show 6 Millard Page County Chronicle Progress rr- July '' - - 18 2QQ2 ‘ Don't we juvt love movies'’ do but then "DC H" I'm the movie guy I like all kinds of movies science fiction fantasy action romance drama even those artsy things that nobod ever watches but walk away ith a'l kinds of awards at the Sundance Film can esen sit through a penod Jane Austen piece and actually tell one sullen Festisal British guy from another as they speak sloIv stand up straight and wear those horrible clothes you were required to wear in ibe 9th century And assume that most other people who go to the theater and pay money to watch mean seriously do sou pay money to have a guy hit you rtiov ics enjoy mov ics too ddn think so in the head with a hammer for two hours’ So I'm just wondering why there are so mans people out there who don’t seem to realize thjt we come to the theater to watch the movie Just a hint didn pay good or to hear about your day at bank to listen to vour cell phone ring or your kids scream unclear on the olfice paid it to WATCH THE MOV It And just in case anybody is on as the concept w atching a mov ie pretty much includes LIST ENING to what’s going well Summer Retreat rescued a family who's car being towed by an R V caught fire on our wav home' ke hjve great kids and the hanks to all for nuking best advisors this memorable outing possible TTiev held their m tl i and 6 ti t imU Sow understand that when watching a mov ie in a public theater have to expect that there W II I be somebody else in the thcJter at the same time After all if want total the other hand please remember you arc not at home privacy stav at home But on either There are other people there trying to watch the movie So have a list My sister who is the queen of all lists and actually has a list of her This is the Movie Guy's Rules of Movie MannersC lists would be proud of me Remember this is my list but from talking to all of my friends who go to the movies to actually watch the film it seems to be a reasonable one Get there on time Unless you're like me and you always sit in exactly the Rule seat same place and you get there four hours early to nuke sure that no one else gets your ahead of you there is going to be some conversation about where to sit So be there OR L the lights go dow n Note that this does not mean get there before the opening BI credits are over or before the feature film starts Get there before the previews This is than the movie thjf especially important when the previews are much more interesting think would have enjoyed the preview of "I ord of the Rings The Two follows rowers" much more than Men in Black 2 but can tell you for sure because a group of 700 people decided to come in during the prev lews and discuss very loudly where they should sit Not just my kids but other kids love kids Rule 2: eave the tiny ones at home too They arc great They arc the future of our community and all that other warm stutT that you feel when you look at little toddlers and cooing babies But they fuy don belong in a showing of "The Bourne Identity” or even "Beauty and the Beast" A of their a simple rule of thumb if they're not old enough to sit quietly through showing favorite video in your living room they aie definitely not old enough to sit for two hours in a dark unfamiliar room w ith a bunch of weird strangers around them My daughter who is two has never been to a movie theater And considering her tendencies to talk on extremely loudly it may be some time before she learns that movies don just come thet v My wife and have a great arrangement about taking turns going to mov ics with son But if this doesn't work for you Get a babysitter our 8 Rule 3: Take crying children out OK if you absolutely have to go see old colicky triplets and you absolutely can’t find a babysitter and your E to conic with you please understand that you may be missing quite a bit of just H the movie 'Cuz when they start screaming (and believe me no matter how well you olumc goes up ed they are at home w hen the lights go dow n and the And out means out Don tjust the theater get the picture) you should take them out of here the mov ic guy is sitting Bring pick them up and hold them sc teaming right next to them back m only after they ate quiet And if you do have young ones with you it's a hich brings me to my next point real good idea to sit on in an aisle seat Rule 4: Dow n in ront’ If you must go out during the mov ic do so quickly Don't stand up stretch and do a few calisthenics before loudly asking the rest of your group what kind of snacks they want And unless it's crowded try to avoid sitting directly in front of somebody especially if you're TO" and the person behind you is smaller than free jl ran Local sculptor beeps chirps rings or otherwise other purpose than to let everyone around know how important you arc turn it off At the least (and this makes sense if you have followed rule 2 and gotten a baby sitter for ibrale And if it docs ring because you either forgot to turn the triplets) put them on don't answer it in the theater Nobody wants to hear you it off or it Jiggled at your hip Go out then answer it or call back if yell into your phone to be hcaid over the movie And if you’re so important that you just can't go anywhere they leave a message without instant access to yout personal communications array then you don’t have time for things as trivial as a movie so slay home Mr President was utterly surprised not too long ago Rule 6a: Turn those blmky things off when during a particularly dull part of a particularly dull movie saw a soft glow feet awav Another movie patron was actually playing solitaire on coming from a few then PalmPilot Dang now there is some backbone Guts yes Common courtesy no blinky shoes If it blinks sec rule By the way that includes those Rule 7: Tnjoy the mov ie and let others do the same Just be polite (ranted sometimes a movie is so bad that you want SOMETHING to distiact you the theater After all But then you can never account for the taste of the other people in w was during the three and a half decades that the mov ie “Titanic” lasted kept ixhing hich still cannot fathom that off getting lobolomizcd instead Yet for some reason Awards and earned five hundred Academy complete waste of celluloid racked in like to that myself kept my retching kadnllion bazilhon dollars So guess it was good because apparently there w ere other people in the theater w ho ere actually enjoying it So please the nevt lime you feel like enjoying a movie please do but don't impose the mov ie but some be not in Remember others the engrossed on may you yourself movie geek may be silting right in front of you who is Rule Rule di m I in builil tin
