estdaythe streetparade in front of the Sands to enjoy the parade W e were joined by Care Center residents across the street It was hot outdoors but everyone had looked forward to joining in the celebration and the parade route was scheduled along our vantage point Every 15 minutes or so an entry drove past and then would disband almost directly in front of us Between the entries many residents would begin gathenng their belongings to go back indoors and some of us finally gave up and did go m We discovered later that at least half the parade did not even take the time to dnv e past the Sands and Care Center The pickup with young people throwing candy tossed it into the middle of the road so none of us were able to pick it up Instead it was gathered by the children following the truck which is fine Although several of us do have a sweet tooth Shouldn't those participating in the parade show respect to the seniors of the community who are unable to line Main Street' Many of the residents in the Care Center and the Sands have devoted years into making West Millard the fine place it is today The parade should go along and then disband after they past the Care Center not right in front of it Being a kid again is fun and the older one gets the less opportunities there are This summer has been zooming right along with its ups and downs and everyone at the Sands is doing okay We’re looking forward to a little cooler weather so we can get outside more often MaNerva answered the phone on my birthday to hear my son singing Happy Birthday thanked him and said “It’s a good thing you got the right number ” Well the first time didn’t Mom” he laughed “but the woman reached told me needed the practice " Marian Dear Aaat Nell: A patron the other day brought me a 9 newspaper dated Saturday January 1943 The front page had an article about a Utah Press Association meeting that was being quoted my dad The meeting held at the New house Hotel in Salt Lake W e used to have a bath mat from the The paper was found New house Hotel under the linoleum of the patron's old family home What a treasure' Speaking of treasures The family of Piz Alldredge donated a piece of his His work unique sculpture to the library is known throughout the state and is highly valued It has been featured in several of the Utah Traveling Art Exhibitions and has made its way to the library several times Each piece shows a wit and sense of humor that isn’t often found m art It’s an honor that the family chose the library to help keep this wonderful legacy alive and available to everyone One of the library goals this year is to begin a local history art project collecting and displaying local art Piz's piece is getting us off to a great start I had a little R&R the last couple of weeks Califomiawascallingand so answered The people on the beach were reading several different kinds of books The Autobiography of Martin Luther king Jr The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay (now there’s not your average read) something by Mary Higgins and James Clark Ridley Pearson Patterson During the ten days of vacation I read The Other Daughter good but a few parts you had to read real fast Murderti Maggodycom by Joan Hess that was hilarious (she cracks me up with her small town characters and their tics) and then listened to the abridged version of It's Not About the Bike by which was Lance Armstrong exceIlent(some language) After listening to his cancer survival story about lying on the hospital bed in the fetal position and throwing up continually day after day his winning the Tour de France for the third time ts absolutely amazing This next bit of news is surely going to tip us over the edge along with some patrons Since the library applies for Universal Services discounts the Federal Government has mandated all libraries to have Internet filtering The filtering part isn’t that bad since we have always had filtering but now every Internet user needs to sign an Internet Policy stating that they will follow the rules If the rules are not followed you can kisi your Internet using days at the library goodbye I’ll probably have to buy a new filing cabinet just to house these new signed forms Keep those pages turning cassettes rolling and videos reeling Community band for Fillmore celebration WANTED DEAD (almost) or ALIVE Young or Old Resurrect your talent and your instrument to join in a community band for the Sesquicentenmal Celebration n Fri Sept 7 in the Statehouse Park Contact Ed Crowe for more formation Tunes will be simple so be brave' We Need You!
