Reserve Deputy Nathan Tingey Haynes was driving a black 1997 Ford Taurus when he was stopped for speeding 87 miles per hour in a 75 zone A record check showed that Haynes’ driver license was suspended as well He was transported to jail and charged into East Millard Justice Court with Class C misd speeding and driving on suspension He appeared before Judge Ron Hare later in the day and was released on his own recognizance 3:37 pm Marlou A Bell 22 and Ryan J Witter 20 Lake Isabella CA were arrested at mp 167 southbound by Utah Highway Patrol Troopers Tom Schneiter and Mike Thomas Witter was the driver of their white 1993 Mazda 626 when he was stopped for speeding 87 mph in a 75 zone Upon contact Schneiter obtained information that Witter’s driver’s license was suspended He also had four active warrant’s out for his arrest from the Salt Lake City area A vehicle search was performed incident to arrest where marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found inside the car Both subjects were transported to jail and charged into East Millard Justice Court Bell was charged with Class B misd possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia She posted a S925 bond and she was released Witter was charged with the above charges as well and additional charges of Class C misd DUI drugs and Class C misd driving on suspension He was released after posting SI 975 bond for the local charges and then posting four other bonds to the Midvale Justice Court Sandy Justice Court (two different warrants) and the 3rd District Court in Salt lake City for charges including but not limited to felony possession of a controlled substance failure to appear unlawful consumption of alcohol and failure to appear on traffic violations These warrants totaled S4005 for a one traffic stop total of $5980 (You’d think that someone with a suspended license and four warrants for his arrest wouldn't even consider speeding down the freeway let alone with some weed in the car You’d think) Tuesday February 13th 2:44 a m Anthony John Cervantez aka Johnny Sanchez 20 of Delta was arrested at the Delta Manor Apartments at 185 South 100 East by Deputies Brett Nielson Morris Burton and Sgt Jeff Whatcott (See front page story) 2:15 am Inez D Walker 26 and a 7 year old male juvenile both of Salt Lake City were arrested at mp 168 northbound By Deputies Rick Carter and Bill Jackson The arrest was the result of an investigation into a gas theft from the Phillips 66 Station at the south Fillmore Interchange The clerk called 91 and reported that the occupants of a white 2000 Toyota Camry had pumped $2606 worth of gas and left without paying Walker was the driver of the vehicle and told officers that she had her purse stolen in California so she didn't have any money to pay for the gas Both subjects were taken into custody and a subsequent vehicle search uncovered marijuana and paraphernalia at a number of locations inside the vehicle They were transported to jail where Walker was charged into EMJC with Class B misd possession of marijuana possession of drug paraphernalia retail theft contributShe appeared the ing to the delinquency of minors and Class C misd DUI drugs following day in front of Judge Ron Hare and pled guilty to the charges She remains incarcerated The 7 year old male juvenile was charged into 4th District Juvenile Court with Class B misd retail theft possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia He was released to family members later in the day Wednesday February 14th 5 by T rooper Tom Schneiter 300 pm Angela Price 8 Fillmore was arrested on Price was driving a green 1972 Chevy Caprice when she was stopped for equipment violations A record check showed that her driver’s license was suspended and she was taken into custody A subsequent vehicle search uncovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle She was transported to jail and charged into Fillmore City Justice Court with Class B misd possession of marijuana possession of drug paraphernalia Class C misd DUI drugs driving on suspension and a seat belt infraction She later posted a $2470 bond and was released pending a future court appearance Thursday February 15th :30 am Seth C Anderson 26 Houston TX was taken into custody by Lt Forrest Roper Anderson is being held in jail on three arrest warrants from the state of Utah The first warrant is for no bail from the 4th District Court in Fillmore for a probation violation The next is from the 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City for felony fraudulent financial transactions and the last is from the 6th District Court in St George for felony theft and the bail on it is $9930 He will be adjudicated here and then transported to the other jurisdictions to face the warrants before he is released All of the warrants were issued in 1995 and have been active since that time during which Anderson was serving prison time in another state 8:00 pm A 7 year old male juvenile was arrested at the Short Stop convenience store ft 777 West M atrr Street trr Delta byReservt Deputy Alan Purvis The juvenile subject was stopped in a white 1983 Ford van for driving without a license A record check showed there was a no bail pickup order (Warrant for juvenile’s) that had been issued by Judge Brown of the 4th District Juvenile Court in Provo The boy was taken into custody and the vehicle was released to his father Purvis cited the boy for Class C misd driving on a denied license then Deputy Steve Allred transported the boy to the Slate Canyon Juvenile Detention Facility in Provo He will be there indefinitely Friday February 16th 1:28 pm Craig R Thomas 18 Bluffdale UT was arrested after a high speed in three different counties (See front motorcycle chase that covered 65 miles of page story) 5:40 pm Denice J Shunn 18 St George UT was arrested on by Trooper Rod Elmer Shunn was driving a green 999 Saturn when she was stopped for speeding Elmer could smell marijuana inside the vehicle and administered field sobriety tests prior to arrest She was transported to jail and charged into EMJC with Class C misd DUI drugs She posted the $750 bond and was released 11:45 pm Dallas M Watts 21 Delta was arrested in Delta by Deputy Rhett Kimball Watts was with an underage female when he was approached by the girl’s family who did not want her to be with him An altercation ensued but the girl was eventually returned to her parent’s Watts was transported to jail and charged into 4th District Court with Class A misd custodial interference and Class C misd disorderly conduct He remains incarcerated without bail pending a hearing on Tuesday February 20th Saturday February 17th 4:41 pm Eric R Diegel 53 of Murray UT was arrested at mp 147 by Deputies Loruen Lewis and Devon Quamberg Lewis was working a speed enforcement shift on when dispatch put out an attempt to locate on a grey Cadillac driving recklessly Lewis located the vehicle traveling at 90 mph southbound near mp 153 on Lewis could smell alcohol when the driver spoke to him and a check showed his driver's license was suspended Then a license plate check showed that the plates belonged to another vehicle Field sobriety tests were administered prior to arrest A subsequent vehicle search uncovered a marijuana pipe inside the vehicle as well Diegel was transported to jail and charged into EMJC with Class B misd DUI alcohol possession of drug paraphernalia no vehicle insurance and Class C misd driving on suspension improper vehicle registration and speeding A blood alcohol test administered at the jail showed a level in excess of 2 times over the legal limit Diegel was released the following day after posting a $2745 bond 7:27 pm Johnny D Alldredge 40 Sterling UT was arrested on northbound by Trooper Rod Elmer Alldredge was driving a redtan 1990 Chevy pickup when he was stopped for an expired vehicle registration Field sobriety test were administered prior to arrest and a subsequent vehicle search found an open beer in the vehicle Alldredge was transported to jail and charged into EMJC with Class B misd DUI and Class C misd open container in a vehicle and expired registration He later posted a $ 440 bond and was released Sunday February 18th 2:00 am Martin Bermudez 28 Delta was arrested in Delta by Deputies Rhett Kimball and Brett Nielson Bermudez was driving a grey 1997 Dodge Intrepid when he was stopped by deputies who were investigation a suspicious vehicle call Kimball could smell alcohol in the vehicle and asked the driver to perform field sobriety tests Bermudez was transported to jail and charged into DCJC with Class B misd DUI alcohol Family members posted the $1350 cash bail later in the day and he was released 10: 10 pm Adam T Jolley 20 Fillmore was arrested near Main Street in Fillmore by Deputy Clete Carter Jolley was wanted on a $253 cash only warrant from the Washington County Justice Court in St George He was transported to jail and released later in the night after posting the bail EMS Fire’s and TVaffic Accidents There were only seven ambulance calls this week with East Millard responding to four West Millard to two and Scipio to one There were three fire calls two of which were injury accidents There were nine property damage accidents tops 93 mph Average Speed on overtime speed enforcement shifts this MCSO Deputies wrote 121 tickets on week The overall average speed was 93 mph which was bolstered a bit by the 30 mph week written of the by Deputy Morris Burton The odd thing is the ticket top speed 130 a before the was in Millard County Fourth District Court on Thursday Feb 15 2001 before Judge James R Taylor (morning calendar) and the Honorable Lynn Davis (afternoon calendar) Sonmt Allen 20 appeared with her attorney Scott P Card for an Initial Appearance She was charged with a class two felony Illegal Possession Use of a Controlled Substance and a class B misdemeanor Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia This case MarOI was scheduled fora Waiver Hearing Stanley George Dalton 54 appeared with his attorney R Clayton Huntsman for an Initial Appearance He was charged with two counts of class two felony Issuing Bad CheckDraftPresumption and Theft Dalton had previously made full restitution to the victim A plea bargain was entered into The Theft charge was dropped and Dalton pleaded guilty to the Issuing Bad Check charge The Bad Check charge carries a maximum prison sentence of to 15 years and a $10000 fine Dalton will serve an 18 month Plea of Abeyance Judge Taylor informed Dalton that any violation of the Plea of Abeyance and he will return for sentencing In addition by virtue of this conviction any future conviction of theft will be enhanced Rondo T Harrison 24 appeared along with Clint Dane Church 23 Enk Dana Hare 20 and Bnan J Bartholomew 24 for their Initial Appearance all represented by Attorney Don McCandiess They were all charged with one count of a class three felony se of a Controlled Substance and one count of a class B misdemeanor Illegal Possession Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Harrison and Church were also charged with one count of a class B Failure to Yield the Right of Mar 01 Way (ran a stop sign) This foursome will return for a Waiver hearing Seth Clarence Anderson voluntarily appeared in court on an outstanding Bench Warrant issued by Millard County Anderson’s charges go back to 1995 when he left Utah and went to Texas then he ran into trouble with the law and served four years He wanted to clear the Bench Warrant charges and start a new life The prosecuting attorney wanted Seth Anderson to serve 30 days for the Warrant however Defense Attorney James Slavens delivered a convincing argument that the 30 days would not serve justice Judge Taylor agreed and dismissed the charges Anderson shook Slavens hand and headed for the door Deputy Roper bounded across the court room and brought him back and Anderannounced that he also had two Bench Warrants outstanding from son was cuffed and put in jail Gary Jacob Culley 20 appeared for a Pretrial Conference with Attorney Karlin Scott Myers Culley was charged with a class A misdemeanor Illegal PossessionUse of Controlled Substance (marijuana) two counts of a class B misdemeanor Use of Controlled Substance and Unlawfull PurchasePossession of Alcohol by a Minor A plea bargain was arranged whereas Culley pleaded guilty to all charges and will have a six months Plea of Abeyance on the first two charges and sentenced on the third charge which was a $ 00 fine to be Cause why he has his 5th probation violation since 1995 Larsen was originally charged with two counts of a class 2 felony Theft and one count of class 3 felony Attempted Theft Failure to make payments for Restitution and his Fine resulted in this probation violation Larsen's probation was reinstated for 36 months and given 60 days in Jail The jail sentence will be stayed for 90 days Larsen said he and 10 in the car The blood alcohol content was 016 Christensen pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in MCJ $2500 fine This was suspended and a 24 month probation was dered along with a fine of $100 per month for 12 months 10 days in MCJ and must show written proof of attendance that she attends AA 4 time per week for her 24 months probation Christensen was warned miss more than one (1) AA Meeting per month or consume “one drop” of alcohol and she will serve the 12 months Credit was given for six days Time Served she was lead back to jail for four more days Alan Drew Hardy 39 stepped Page second Stalker will receive evaluation by Knox Huntsman Hinckley resident Matthew M Steele was in court Feb 16 for a Competency Hearing to rev tew the results of an evaluation after being charged with stalking a female Judge James R Taylor presided During Steele’s Jan 4 court appearance raised about his mental were questions competency As a result he was remanded to an institution fot evaluation Steele underwent evaluation for weeks a part of the examination was performed by Global Psychological Services (GPS) Prosecuting Attorney Dexter Anderson called Dr Richard R Wooton of GPS to the stand as an expert witness W'ooton told the court that Steele was rational and mostly knowledgeable when asked questions about his lawyer the stalking crime penalties his marriage and divorce and his children Steele did not hear voices and was not retarded but had border line intelligence Steele became mentally psychotic and was delusional when asked about religion W'ooton testified Steele recalled stalking female named "Sunshine” a and said they were married in Heaven by God and some day she would recognize the marriage Steele would do what was necessary to protect Sunshine and his daughter and would inflict pain with his bow and arrow W’ooton also testified Dunng cross examination of Wooton Defense Attorney Bryan Sidwell said Steele was basically competent except for a few strong beliefs about religion Sidwell indicated that many people in the local community have similar deep seated liefs about religion Judge Taylor found that Steele was not rational or competent Under state law there must be two evaluations Taylor dered Steele to be in a secured setting for 90 days He was also ordered to be manded to the Executive Director of Mental Services in hopes that Steele would be evaluated and admitted into the Utah State will be scheduled Hospital A in the future Steele was arrested The Dec 14 for stalking a female He was charged into Fourth District Court with Class A misdemeanor stalking and held on $15000 bond He appeared for arraignment Dec 2 and pled not guilty Judge Harding continued the matter to the Jan 4 competency hearing Victim raped in Delta A Delta female was allegedly raped after requesting a ride to a friend's home Tuesday Feb 13 according to police reports Deputies Brett Nielson Morris Burton and Sgt Jeff John Whatcott arrested Anthony Cervantez aka Johnny Sanchez 20 of Delta later that night Cervantez was charged into Fourth District Court with first degree felony rape second degree felony kidnaping second degree felory burglary of a dwelling Class A misdemeanor supplying alcohol to minors and Class B misdemeanor sault He remains incarcerated with bail set at $25000 cash only Police officers received a call from Delta Manor residents asking for an ambulance and officers to help one of their friends T uesday night After deputies arrived the female was taken to Delta Community Medical Center for a medical examination Earlier that night the young woman had apparently been consuming alcohol at a Delta residence She became groggy and unable to move and asked for a ride to a friend’s home During the ride Cervantez allegedly sexually assaulted her inside the vehicle which had been parked near the Main Street overpass in Delta The girl was then driven to the residence and dropped off according to police reports to Highway Patrol Senior Officer Eric Nielson Both occupants of the hicle were wearing their safety belts The driver died at the scene His wife Cristine Fletcher suffered minor cuts and bruises and
