after 3 pmon Thursday hurled across the June 22 a valley in Flowell and created havoc ripping a roof from a home and strew ing it across a field— tearing a limb from a tree and onto a power line This resulted in a fast fire which at first started north then changed directions heading for the home of Mark and Karen ardle At 307 Karen called 91 as the w ind changed again and sent the fire racing across a thick field in a southeasterly rection Stiff w inds continued as two units from the Fillmore Fire Department and one unit from the BLM Forest Service Fire Station responded to the call One of them entered the field and attacked the point of the fire as h raced toward the road Others went to the W ardle home area where the yard was soon filled with vehicles bearing water fighters and their tools A neighloader sped into the bor on a field near the W ardle home and cleared a to keep the fire from jumping to John Cooper wins primary election John Micro-Bur- Vol 0 ward the home est of the fire at the home of Richard and Kimberly Herbst wind commuted to rip at the roof sending strips of insulation flying across the field or piling up against their cars Neighbors converged from all direct:ons moving the cars out of the line of wind to prevent further roof materials from hitting them and giving support to Kimberly whose husband was in Delta and hurrying homeward Back at the fire which had again changed directions and was burning rapidly in a northeasterly direction across the road from the house a unit from Fillmore with Sherri Ashworth at the wheel and John Row ley on the hose rolled across the field and into the face cf the fire with the pressure hose cutting the fire to ashes and smoke Crews from the BLMFS Station entered the field and helped the trucks put out the many fires that continued to crop up Finally the wind stopped and the County Fire Warden Howard Allred from Delta Gayle Sorenson Director of the BLMTS Station and the Chiefof Fillmore FD directed Fire Fighters as the fire was put out and it was safe to leave It was about 430 Fillmore Fire Chief Mike Ingram expressed his gratitude that the fire was out and said “Tell the people of Millard County to please be careful it’s going to be a dangerous season" Karen Wardle said “Thanks to the Flowell Community who were here in minutes helping and to the Fire Departments for their quick efficient work I'm so grateful that there wasn't any more damage and that no one was hurt" field at the Across the Herbst home a crew including Mark Wardle Richard Herbst and neighbors was already atop the house making necessary repairs to keep out any rain that might come before the roof can be replaced Judging from the response from this small community it won’t be long before that is done (Photos not taxpayers according to County Commissioner Cox To do so five translator sites in the county are needed and terserved because of the large area rain features Annual budget for operation and maintenance of equipment needed to transmit the received signal is $88235 This also includes the revenue for equipment placement and upgrades The Federal Communications Commission on June 7 auctioned the frequency spectrum occupied by television channels 60 - 69 This spectrum will now be used for cellular telephone service and public safety radio such as law enforcement agencies fire and rescue and ambulance service Channels that were operating in this range must now relocate to other channels which are available for television service The FCC also plans to auction the frequency spectrum currently occupied by channels 52 - 59 in about a year so it will then be necessary to relocate channels operating in this spectrum as well A statewide plan which will accommodate the relocations of these television channels without interference from one another is being developed The anticipated changes are planned for this fall or early winter and will be done as quickly as possible to limit the down time for each channel The seven channels currently being transmitted from the Oak City site on channels 54 - 68 will be moved to the channels in the 3 - 5 channel range The three channels now transmitted from the Cedar Mountain site north of Fillmore on channels 52 - 58 will be moved to channels 36 - 40 One channel at Garrison on channel 55 will be moved to channel 46 Solar no change of output channeling is anticipated at the Leamington or Scipio Summit sites The above changes will necessitate some new equipment installations and modifications to existing equipment The Stale Legislature has appropriated $34 2 million over the next three years $750000 per year from mineral lease money to help the 23 participating Utah counties accomplish the needed changes Without confusing residents the County TV Department is attempting to explain the upcoming changes As the process continues the department will include detailed information as to where the actual new tclevison channels will be assigned and the dates it will be accomplished Residents with questions may call Commissioner Cox at or television translator technicians Dee or Don Dafoe Hollingshead at
