definition from the Federal Land Policy and Management Act dated May 15 1976 Roadless refers to the absence of roads hich hav e been improv ed and maintained by mechanical means to insure regular and continuous use A way maintained only by the passage of ehicles does not constitute a road Conservation areas recommended by the county will allow for roads grazing camping in designated areas and some week here is a minor meteor shower that occurs on the evening of the 20th that radiates overhead around 0:00 pm from the constellation of Cy gnus the Swan that is directly he radiant point is close to During the Perseid meteor shower last week on the I3lh the author had the opportunity to remain watching this shower and during an average count spotted five very watch and approximately 20 less critical factor when doing work in celestial mechanics important to main ot us computing orbits and space travel traiectories One second when extrapolated over a period of time as a spacecraft flies by the planet Saturn can amount to a distance error of miles and cause a complete miss of the intended mission Here on arth one second in an automobile traveling at f0 miles per hour will amount to 88 feet of travel! miles per second' Sometimes a bit to imagine this in a spacecraft mov ing at 4 or of tnv ia can be important ( New Horizons Crisis Center) Diane O Hendrickson MS Rape Crisis Program Manager in serv ices numbers of clients serv ed and the inadequacy of area Because of increase space New llorions is in need of a larger shelter Property has been purchased and architectural plans have been drawn for a new shelter Plans for the facility provide six iduals has indiv babies (current shelter and capacity sleeping space for twenty four he new building will have seven bedrooms five for sixteen indiv iduals and six babies) bathrooms a large kitchen counseling rooms children's play area and a family room his facility will allow for future growth with a total square footage of 4 10 CJC will consist of two interv iew rooms a waiting room office space and a ideo equipment room otal square footage is 500 square feet he Children's Justice Center concept emerged in I tah in 990 CJCs are homelike facilities hich serv e children and families w ho are experiencing the crisis and chaos that conies w ith the disclosure of significant physical or sexual abuse of a child Children do not stay ov crnight in these facilities rather CJCs are designed to help children feel safe and comfortable while being interviewed so that they may begin to deal with the difficult and often frightening issues that surround the abuse he atmosphere is and the interv iew rooms look much like a child's bedroom in a private home team Children visit the center while investigators meet with them A consisting of law enforcement social workers child advocates therapists and prosecutors coordinate the interview process he goals of a Children's Justice Center are: to increase the effectiveness of protectfamily members ing children: reduce trauma: and help children and er from a difficult experience The presence of a CJC in a community can make the investigation and any resulting court proceedings much easier for the child and the family raditionally investigation of child sexual abuse required multiple interv iews of the child victim by police social services medical personnel psychologists and attorneys It has not been uncommon for children ho hav e experienced serious abuse to be interview ed any where from eight to twelve limes The presence of a CJC can rsdiux this number to one or two inter-he interv iew is recorded on ideo taped iew s All investigation involving al legations of child abuse can be very difficult for the child and the family The inv estigation is often confusing and frightening to children and parents alike The focus and function of the Children's Justice Center is to reduce the trauma of the child abuse investigation and help the child feel safe to reveal the truth Helping the process How smoothly with as little discomfort to the child as possible is a major concern of a Children's Justice Center At the present lime there are twelve CJCs in Utah but non are located in the area CJCs can be found in Price armington Roosevelt Tooele St George est Jordan and Vernal Ogden Provo Moab Salt Lake City Logan The total cost of the new Shelter Children's Justice Center will be about $630000 w ill also have Grants hav e been ritten to meet some of the costs but local in to be done We are hopeful that the public will be generous with its time and money this effort The new center is an opportunity for communities in the area to form a partnership of caring to children and their families who have been hurt by abuse Anyone who wishes
