When ou remov e branches from a ta'e it in this order: Remove dead diseased or dying branches first Second remov e low crossing or hazardous branches Third remove broken branches remove branches to control the Lastly sie of a tree if needed Pruning of dead branches can be done at any time of the year since y ou do not cut into any live tissue For most cies it is best to prune live branches during the late winter or early spring while the tree is still dormant This allows the plant to replace lost branches and foliage during the coming grow ing season and lows wounds to close the seal faster Pruning in the summer is usually not recommend as it will cause a loss of food production due to the removal of foliage This restricts root development and slows the overall process of tree growth It is at any time better to prune a of the year than to leave it unpruned but summer pruning should be moderate or slight in order to discourage excessive sprouting and disease On a neglected tree remove no more than 13 of the branches over a three y ear period otherwise you may kill the tree Good pruning does not involve the topping of a tree Topping also known as hatracking pollarding or dehorning is the practice of removing major portions of a do CRANK! Better treatments as always available If your objective is to reduce or otherwise control the growth pattern of a large tree there are three accepted methods ou can use side pruning pruning or directional pruning Ask you tree pruner if they practice any of these methods If they do not and only want to top your tree ask them to leave and find someone who will prune your trees properly If you Uhout interv ention a significant percentage of domestic iolence cases escalate more serious incidents over time traditionally the primary social institution initially intervening in domestic abuse cases is the local law enforcement agency Prosecutors in turn are responsible for the evaluation of police actions when the incident results in an arrest The prosecutor es and assesses the sufficiency of complaints and ev idence collected by law enforcement and acts as the people's represcniativ e in the court to bring about formal sanctioninally ing ol' unacceptable and criminal conduct judges have the express responsibility adjudicate the conduct of a particular offender as well as interpret and rule on the constitutionality of laws Ideally law enforcement the judicial system and victim serv ices work together to proiect victims and punish perpetrators On March 14 1444 judges prosecutors and attorneys in our area will have an opportunity for an excellent educational experience A judicial training seminar w ill be held at the St George Holiday Inn beginning at :3() am with Judge James L Shumate Presiding Judge of the f ilm District Court as the luncheon speaker The afternoon session ill emphasize the importance of a coordinated community response to domestic iolence particularly perpetrator treatment accountability Successful intake and tracking protocols developed by the ashington County Domestic Violence Coalition will be discussed Use of these protocols has greatly reduced noncompliance by perpetrators to court ordered treatment in ashington County The afternoon seminar will also look at the importance of the Judicial response to domestic violence specifically ordering perpetrators to complete domestic violence treatment and the imposing of serious consequences when that does not happen A panel format using a case scenario ill be used ith members of the panel coming from law enforcement prosecution the court DCFS treatment providers and victim advocates Hours for continuing education will be given by the Administrative Office of the Courts and the I tah State Bar e strongly encourage our judges prosecutors and attorneys to take advantage of this opportunity to see how a county coalition has established an effective approach for handling domestic violence perpetrators We believe that it will be a beneficial educational experience for all usu edM Can you give me some facts about why late night snacking is unhealthy? Answer by: Georgia Lauritzen Utah Slate University Extension Nutrition Specialist One of the reasons that late night snacking is harmful is that many snack foods we consume happen to be high in fat and may contribute a lot of calories Snacking in itself is not necessarily a bad thing if foods are selected which contribute to the total diet and don't just contribute additional calories especially as fat Timing of eating has been studied and a few studies indicate that late night eating may cause greater deposition of fat Timing may be a factor because we are usually less active physically later in the day and those calories are not burned immediately for energy Late night snacking will not alway s cause more fat deposition The bottom line is still that total food intake needs to match total energy output to prevent fat deposition Pet owners can reduce the risk of oral disease The first step in preventing oral disease is a routine phy sical examination cluding a dental exam Pet owners should practice a regular dental care regimen at home which may include brushing the pet's teeth with specially formulated toothpaste It's best to start early but grown dogs and cats can learn to tolerate brushing Toothpaste for humans is not recommended because it may upset the pets stomach care with Schedule regular your family veterinarian and ask about specially formulated foods with proven benefits in plaque and tartar removal fPQOR |
