Then school started and at games or assemblies the cheerleaders (another weird American custom) kept shouting stutTlike "Rabbits are the best" Besides that there were the pictures of rabbits on the school walls and everybody's So finally realized the meaning of school mascots But still think it's grotesque that on one hand students all adore this rather wimpy creature but on the other hand they shoot and ev en eat rabbits (Yuck!) Anyway just couldn't get the whole rabbit thing out of my head so did some research on the Internet and here's what by Darci Seilsen DHS Delta's struggle in the Rjchfield boy s' basketball game ended in a loss Delta only scored 17 points in the first three quarters but then made 20 in the fourth '"Both teams played tough defense so it took longer to get any good shots" said Coach Warnick Jake Nielson shot the ball once and made three points in the last 38 seconds of the game "I wasn't looking to score so was said passive on the opportunities" Nielson Joe Lovell led the team with 7 points Jake Nielson had three assists The team had three steals 15 rebounds and 13 Delta only had two free turnovers throw s the entire game and Richfield shot by Durei Seihen DHS Wildcats Devour Rabbits - said: Online" "Encarta the "Rabbits common name for certain small furry mammals w ith long ears and short tails The species called rabbits are characterized by the helplessness of their offspring which are bom naked and with closed ey es and by their gregarious habit of living in colonies in underground burrows" rn my opinion that definition doesn't seem to make the rabbit a sy mbol for fame and glory and it really isn't a superior animal So why would anybody want to use it as their school mascot? Well you never know maybe l'vegot it all wrong maybe this is more like it: the "Delta Rabbits" prove the common opinion about rabbits wrong by being overwhelmingly successful in sports So if the wrestlers really take state next eekend (and there is no doubt they w ill) they will show the world that although "bom naked and w ith closed ev es" they can still beat every body else once they 're a little more grown up - 27 "They Richfield were the aggressors most of the game They did a lot of illegal things and the refs would just not call anything" said Coach U amick Jaren Rowley said "After fouled a kid he pushed me into the pad behind the basket and the ref grabbed a hold of me" Delta plays Carbon on Wed Feb 10 If Delta is victorious they w ill trav el to play No 2 ranked Bear River Millard wrestlers February won the region The Millard Eagles were at South Sev ler on Saturday February 6 for the central division region tournament Millard set a new region scoring record 5 to 426 points take 1" place and scoring qualified 24 wrestlers for state wrestling at I'VSC this weekend Individual placings were Teeples Matt Anderson Tyler Tunic Dane Stephenson Jason Starley Joh conpe'e a' S'a'e !he 2A Townaef c hiiaker Vdani W'httaker umer Ruga ill Brunvin anj Jjrer arser Jam Stevens Cur:i chard Tuttie uttie Brendan Robins Brad Robioon Brandon hristensen and JcJ Robr: UaiJeil Vkkirlcv smith Justin Seven Steven nJcrson anj Dana Hare Bik:rand anj rev or eeple- - flie state oumament ill be held iV S( (n ebruary rounJ ot 'be tounsjmcnt M'xj a! hccT on hursday ebruary i c: an: m :he Mckay spec d' st !lt ir tht' imru o iw ' he Saturday round irarrpi'n-hiat ai p tr CumJ laK a: and ev cry one come up to irer restierxi d appori our great MHs wrestlers at :t Millard Downs Beaver Millard's Mike lurner scored 25 points to led the Fagles to a ictory over the Beaver Beavers on Friday February at Beaver 4 at the end of the first Beav er led period but Millard outscored the Beavers the rest of the game to cap the tory Others scoring for Millard ere Josh Fowkes 4 Curtis Chnstensen 4 Tyler Alldredge Shane kunz 3 Kyle Allen 2 Jesse Boone 12 and Van Mitchell 2 in the southern The Fagles are vision of region 11 Millard will host kanab on Wednesday February 10 and will be at Parovv an on Fridav Februarv 12 Kevin 'Facts combined when ideas constitute the greatest force in the world" — Carl W Ackerman with by first" said Coach Jason Thomas Scott Abbott 12 Gordon Beckstrom 19 Jared Christensen 135 Rick Dutson 140 Rhett Crapo 145 Dallin Chase 152 215 171 kCStanworth Sam and Storm Singleton heavy weight all took first place Lane Goold at 130 and Dustin Shumway at 189 both took second place Cody Pehrson at 160 took third place Delta had 4 7 points overall at Region The closest team w as Richfield w ith 59 points State will be Thurs Feb thru Sat Feb 13 at UVSC State Wrestling will be held at UVSC Annie Draper DHS The State W restlcs will he Thuri Feb II thru Sat Feb 13 at UVSC The first match begins on Thursday at 8:30 am The Fri Matches will start at 8 am and at 0 am On Sat The championship round ill start at 5 pm on Sat According to the Utah Wrestling News and the Salt Lake Tribune Delta is ranked third in class 3A behind Wasatch first and Uintah second Wasatch qualified 16 wrestlers Uintah has 2 and Delta is competing with 20 The Utah Wrestling News and the Salt Lake Tribune ranked Luke Beckstrom 03 Gordon Beckstrom 19 Jared Christensen will Millard Qualifies 24 for State Delta takes Region for the 42 consecutive year Annie Draper DHS Delta brought home the Region title in wrestling for the 42 consecutive y ear This year the Junior Varsity wrestlers were allowed to compete at region Six JV placed in the top four at region and arc eligible to compete at stale along with the fourteen varsity wrestlers Luke Beckstrom at 103 took first He competed for first against fellow wrestler Chase Christensen in the finals Jake Abbott at 12S also wrestled a Delta player Jed Morris for the first place spot "1 w ant them to wrestle each other in the finals because that is the best we can do A first and a second They both can't take p on Saturday champions?) JV Wrestlers Assist Varsity to Region Title by Brooke Ferry DHS -- The JV proved to Region 8 that they had w hat it takes to be part of the Delta wrestling program Since JV wrestlers were able to participate in the gion tournament last Tuesday Delta took 13 JV along with the 14 varsity to Em- ery High To qualify for the state tournament the wrestlers needed to place in the top four Six JV wrestlers are well on their way to state this week However as the JV have found out there are some problems that arise when there are two Delta wrestlers in the same weight such as having to wrestle their varsity teammate in the finals!
