If you recall last week me talked a little bit about the “Golden Years” and whether or not we should do something about them in terms of planning for them Well since we’re all living a lot longer in terms of time what's there to guarantee that we’ll have all necessary income to live on that we’ll need? other than “think about if” the So since there is a recognizable need to do something might be what exactly are our options? The truth is — there is an unlimited question number of options available to us What are they? Let's take a moment and look at some of the options most of which you are already familiar with They are stocks mutual funds bonds and bank savings such as certificates of deposit (CDS) just to name a few And of course the traditional plans like company pensions and social income What’s the common thread security are very important sources of retirement income andor benefiL Now what among them? Each of these provide some retirement feature that you should know about these retirement vehicles? None else is a common of them will ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE you a retirement income that you just in order that you don’t get simply cannot outlive When you plan for your retiremenL met with some unexpected - not to mention unpleasant surprises these are some items that you simply must consider Now this may surprise many of you but a fixed annuity offered by a life insurance that will guarantee the security company may very be the best and safest alternative and an income that you honestly cannot outlive Now that one factor alone should be worth a bundle to you in the “Peace of Mind” departmenL Don’t you think so? Since we’re all living longer nowadays it just makes better sense to build a safe foundation for guaranteed income that you’ll never be able to outlive - no matter what the market conditions are like It makes all of your other investments is solid and well laid! perform much much better when the foundation Insurance companies have developed some terrific new products - recognizing that we are living longer so next week we’ll take look at some these new products for new Hi! How’s times Have Q a good day When my - and '92 I’ll Ford see you Tempo soon is run- noise from ning I hear a loud humming the rear Is this noise something I should worry about? A For many years now since the rival of fuel injection vehicles require much more fuel pressure and volume to operate Because of this need electric fuel have been placed in die fuel tanks suspect the noise you are hearing is from your electric fuel pump You may consider having a fuel pump and volume test performed This you know the condition of your pressure will let fuel pump based on the vehicle's factory specifications On a fuel injected vehicle you can take preventive measures to protect your electric fuel pump One is to change your fuel filter every 12 months or 5000 miles whichever comes firsL The other is to keep your gas tank at least ri full a few Andrew Johnson was the only to be elected to the United States Senate the article there are two sections of these situations Section pumps FAX: Fillmore: Referencing your article on the rezoning of the Sandhill property: I always suspected that it worked this way but was more than a little surprised that the “Golden Rule” would ever be so shamelessly used as a legal defense By the “Golden Rule” I refer to the old saw of “them that has the gold makes the rules” which seems to be Mr Baird’s (John Hcnrie’s looks like code that cover and Section are pretty straight forward If you are a public official don’t hit people up for or accept gratuities The other section parently prohibits public officials from using their position to “further substantially” the official's personal economic interesL Mr Baird's interpretation of this section of code is that since Mr Henrie is well off financially that any profit that realizes the he from consequences of the rezoning of the Sandhill would not “further substantially" his net worth and therefore would not fall undo1 the jurisdiction of this section of code This is very interesting legal reasoning I have to assume that if I were a county commissioner and I had a part interest in some property the value of which would be enhanced by my vote on a rezoning issue that I would probably because in my case stand condemned would “furmost any value enhancement ther substantially” my economic position Conversely if Warren Buffet or Bill were commissioners there would be virtually nothing that they could not Gates do as they could be given Millard County en toto and not have it substantially hance their net worth Not only is this pretty bold legal reasoning but I think is a bold action to ignore the advice of a county attorney known throughout the state to look carefully at the law and apply it without regard to position or priviwhere conflict of interest lege especially issues are involved that this issue is of agriculture vs suburban growth There are many places for and packing plants in Millard County haven’t made any measurements but it looks like Mr Cropper probhas room for a feedlot and packing ably plant near the new home he builL Good access too The issue is about highway what we can expect in terms of land use when we buy property and build on iL It is just as unfair for the county to change it’s mind on the zoning of the Sandhill as it would be for the county to rezone the We need to remember not an issue land around the new egg production Sincerely David Hahn Help students experience America Dear Editor An average American in this country enjoys the lifestyle that kings have always of through all ages of time No other generation has ever had access to a full selection of food in all seasons from all parts of the world nor access to a wardrobe of quality clothing stacked in the closets of homes with size and comforts that exceed any period in history with conveniences that were never dreamed of by our ancestors We have more and better automobiles RV’s boats four wheelers snow mobiles ATV’s and we seem to have time to enjoy them all When we think about it we have an unusually good life compared with people in many nations I have often wondered how come I was privileged to be bom in this country To bask in the prosperity of this nation I have a feeling that I am expected to share what I am capable to share with others who are less fortunate than my self This I have decided to do I am writing this to invite you to do the same How would you like to bring the kind of happiness you continually enjoy to some folks who will probably never in their entire life experience a day or a week or a month of what you enjoy each day of your life It is a sobering thought to realize that we are actually empowered with the ability to our kindness for help make this dream come true for someone who would remember the rest of their lives There are a dozen students in Kazym Siberia who come from families who have no in their homes inside facilities and the wonderful none water bathroom of no running conveniences which have been mentioned in this article These students are kind respectable students who are studying English in hopes of sometime coming to this country to experience life in America even if if is only for a very short time A tax exempt organization called The San Juan Foundation is in place with the San Juan School DistricL to take donations to make it possible for these students to have the Opportunity in (his experience in San Juan County during the month to participate of November It is possible that we could enjoy a nice feeling of satisfaction if we all just pitched in what we could and become a part of a real meaningful projecL After you give this some serious thought and find you really want to be a part of this but funds are not available here is an idea make the ultimate sacrifice just contribute next weeks soda pop allowance It is a small sacrifice on our part but it is the how many students will have the opportunity to make very thing that will determine the high point of their lives here in America If one ant had to build an ant hill all by himself it would probably be impossible but when each little ant carries his own little load to the mound the job is successfully accomplished Any help you can give this project would be very much appreciated by many Please make contributions to the San Juan Foundation before August 0 998 and mail to address: San Juan School District 200 North Main Blanding UT 84511 Thank you for your consideration Steve and Adell Lovell dreamed e The first week of August brings the Full Moon on the 7th at 10: 10 pm EDT which means that our observing deep sky objects will somewhat be limited since the Moon will remain up throughout most of the evening However as previously mentioned in last week's article the planets Jupiter and Saturn which are much brighter than the surrounding stars will be easy to locate late in the evening Saturn will come into opposition on the 23 rd of October and become brighter than its present magnitude of zero rivaling the star Vegas in Lyra the Harp On the 12th of this month we will get the opportunity to see the mighty Perseid meteor shower that not even the waning moon can drown ouL This famous meteor shower has earned its reputation with a standard rate of 60 or more meteors per hour However expect only to see 30 per hour since our moon will wash out some of the :00 pm into dimmer meteors The best time to observe these bright meteors is after the early morning hours when the Earth will be meeting these meteors at 18 miles per second You will have to look to the northeast not too far from the horizon on the 1th 12th and 13th as these meteors cross our orbit in space The following diagram will assist you in locating the radiant poinL which is the location that these meteors seem to in the sky Binoculars emanate that have a magnification of not more than 7X with a wide field of view will aid you in spotting some of the dimmer meteors John If you own a lunar map and know the diameter of a crater have you ever timed this shadow? As this shadow crosses the face of die Moon have you ever seem to pop up out of nowhere? spotted features that suddenly our Moon Although is considered a dead world new discoveries are constantly being made from time to time Only a few months ago while radar imaging the Moon astronomers found water located in pockets that are never exposed to direct sunlighL How important is this? If future travelers ever plan to remain on the Moon to establish a base this water may be die key to survival within their environmental chambers Also remember that our Moon still suffers meteoric impacts and you might be the discoverer a new crater of Of course you will need some good maps for comparison and a medium sized telescope refractor! Discoveries have been made with just a Remember also that observing the Moon in its Full phase with the light of the Sun striking straight on washes out any contrast and of course there will be no shadows cast by the mountains i I |
