Rodeo in Scipio Communities celebrate the 24th of July By Derin Phelps Adults and kids of all ages spent last Pioneer Days weekend celebrating Pioneer Days is a holiday commemorating the arrival of the first Mormon Pioneers to Utah in 1847 Highlighting Millard County festivities were the Hinckley Rodeo as well as a parade Saturday morning a two mile run a program at Hinckley Town Park and a Hootenanny Scipio celebrated with the Round Valley Rodeo Monday night The Hinckley Pioneer Days Rodeo ran Friday and Saturday nights and featured bareback riding team roping Junior events bull nding steer wrestling and many other events Heath Fackrcll took first place in the bareback nding competition with a score of 65 The saddle bronc event w as won by Dave Madsen who scored 72 Dick Chnstcnsen scored a 76 to win the bull riding competition In team roping Coby Drake and Greg Bennett w ere the w inners with a time of 750 seconds In the barrel racing event Holly Stiles look first place with a lime of 17384 seconds The break away roping w as won by Amy Allen w ith a time of 360 seconds Ross Murri look the first place title in calf roping finishing h966 seconds Justin Hodsun finished the steer wrestling competition with a lime of 669 seconds and look first place for his efforts There were 175 contestants in the adult categories for the two nights In the Junior Categories on Friday night Haley Petersen took first place in the Jr Barrel Races Lana Dansie w alkcd aw ay in second place and Holli Brown took third place Petersen came back Saturday night to win again in the Jr Barrel Races Brown finished in second place and Mai ary Schena w as the third place winner in the Saturday night Jr Barrel Racing competition In the Hometown Senior Barrels competition Edna Day took first County Pageant Lew is is the Pageant Director and said this is the time in Five years the contest has been in Fillmore The pageant w ill be at 8 00 p m on Saturday August 5 in the Millard High School iMHS) Auditorium Lewis said the pageant will be at MHS because the new audiionum can hold more persons and is affordable for the pageant committee The auditorium has 750 scats available and is air conditioned The committee will pay the Millard Hinckley Lions Club float ) in Tony Saturday's Pioneer Days Parade to 19 year age category In the 20 to 29 vear group the w inner w as Res Butterfield vehick rollov er on State Route 2117 miles southeast of Garrison Trooper Paul Mitchell of the Utah Highway Patrol reports Torres w as driving a 1986 Ford pickup southbound about am when he lost controL The vehick w ent off the right side of the highway Torres pulled the vehick back onto the roadway and over cor reeled The pickup rolled tw ice in the middle of the highway Torres and a passenger 35 wear old Ernesto Caiena of Milford were ejected Mitchell said the vehicle rolled over Torres Cadena w as taken to Milford Hospital with a fractured kft collar bone Mitchell sa id no seat the judges Bathing suit competition counts for 15 percent of the score The bathing suit competition will be done in private to make the girls feel at case Talent will make up 40 percent of each contestant’s score and evening gown competition will be worth 15 percent Lewis said that by the lime of the the contestants will have pageant worked two days a week for six weeks practicing for the opening number and preparing for the competition itself As part of the preparation the contestants meet one evening with a local hair stylist and learn to do their ow n hair and makeup Contestants in the Miss Millard Pageant are not required to do their own hair and makeup before the pageant but contestants of the Miss Utah Pageant are required to do so Contestants also make appointments with newspapers and magazines to keep up w ith w hat’s happening Lewis said each contestant fills out a fact sheet The fact sheet includes the names of the contestants' parents the contestants full names ages hobbies education and future goals A photo of each contestant is stapled to each fact sheet The judges form some of the questions for the interview from the fact sheets Lewis said contestants are be concerned about the bombing and cautions to take Hi Veits a com pans which sells sporting good supplies specialty items pyrotechnic supplies and specialized ammunition As part of Trezza's business he travels around the country to show his w ares at gun show s “We are a mail order house and supply pxvlicc departments and federal agencies" Trezza explained “Everything we sell is legal" Trezza learned a lesson about being He said cautious after the tombing there w as a man from Kingman Arizona who frequented his table at a Phoenix gun show in November of 1993 That man was Timothy Me for dinner” Trezza said Trezza said he saw nothing to give any idea that he would commit this ty pe of a crime “Of all people I would not have expected this from him" Trezza said Mc Veigh reportedly v isitcd Trezza five or six times at (Liferent gun shows At one show Trezza said Me Veigh asked him if he needed any help at the Delta headquarters Trezza said he told Me Veigh "no” Me Veigh then asked if Trezza needed any help with gun shows and gave Trezza a piece of paper containing ha address Trezza said he noticed that the paper did not include a telephone number Trezza sad be told Me Veigh he needed a phone number because if he needed tc use hnr for a g un show he would need to contact him on short notice Trezza said Me Veigh stopped coming around about six to eight months before the bombing After the bombing Trezza’s computer operator showed him a magazine article which included a picture of Me Veigh Trezza told the computer operator that he recognized the picture and she looked his name up on the computer His name came up on the screen and Trezza remembered his visits at the gun shows At this lime Trezza said he knew- Me Veigh had some Hi Vcl materials and that the FBI would trace them to him Trezza decided to call the FBI and volunteer to help in the investigation He said the FBI received more than 6CM0 calls before he called Trezza said his call was number 6223 but it got the FBI’s attention Trezza said he gave FBI agents the address of a Kingman apartment where Me Veigh said he lived When authorities arrived Me Veigh had moved Trezza said he also had the address of a Kingman motel A visit to the motel also came up empty Trezza said he gave the FBI as much information he had about Me Veigh including a computer run of and phooc numbers of other contacts in the area which may have had connections to Me Veigh Trezza said he thought the investigation was over until about three weeks ago when another FBI agent visited his Delta home The agent sought information about several robberies of guns and ammunition in Arkansas Two different gun dealers w ere robbed and the robberies w ere tied to the second suspect m the Oklahoma City bombing Terry Nichols According to Trezza the robbery victims are friends of his w hocalicd him just after the incident to am bum to be careful Trezza said his fnends were afraid Trezza may be robbed as welL The Arkansas robberies
