Show Millard County Chronicle Three seats up in Fillmore City elections Hinckley Grand Marshall r Perry M Tippetts has been chosen as Grand Marshall for the July 24 celebration in Hinckley Mr Tippetts was bom Feb 151915 in Lovell Wyoming to Ishamael H and Rose Elizabeth Tippetts At age 9 his family with eleven other families moved to Delta with the intent to grow sugar beets for Sugar Company He grew up as a farm boy learning the skills relative to farm life in this area He herded cows and helped milk them by hand fed chickens chopped wood and performed other chores He learned and practiced the art of” hay making” in four stages derrick horse rider hay wagon tromper Jackson fork operator and master hay stacker He paid for his clothing and schooling by thinning sugar beets At age 16 Perry hired out as spike pitcher on a threshing crew and became so good he earned 60 cents per hour a dime more than for ordinary hay pitchers His formal education covered many years and many places including the old two room two teacher elementary school at Woodrow a now extinct area that once existed somewhere between Sutherland and Sugarville At Della High Perry's major interest was Future Farmers of America (FFA) Perry attended BYU where he studied hard but never allowed his studies to interfere with his social education Through his social pursuits he met and married Beatrice Haws Sept 4 1941 She became and remains the predominant influence in his life He worked in various communities in Utah and California as a school teacher Perry loves to garden and has had the pleasure of providing excellent sweet com tomatoes and cantaloupe for the people of this area Their most memorable experience says Perry was as missionaries in Africa from July 1981 to March 1983 Bea and Perry arc parents to 8 children and grandparents to numerous We have always children They say been happy because of our family our friends and the Gospel We love life and life has been good to us” Attention: All Veterans dependents and widows The Service Officer from the American Legion Salt Lake City will be in your area to assist you in understanding and applying for VA benefits including compensation pension hospitalization education and other benefits This is a free service and veterans need not be a member of the American Legion to receive assistance The Service Officer will be at the Delta Job Service on Thurs August 10 1995 from PM For further information Contact Kaylccn Beebe at By Dtrin Phelps Three members of the Fillmore City Council have announced that they will not seek in November Councilmen Charles Ferguson Alan Roper and Steve Frampton will retire from the council after the fall elections Fillmore City Recorder Marlene Cummings reminds Fillmore residents interested in running for city council that the filing deadline is August 22 As of Monday Cummings said no one has filed to run for city council Ferguson is retiring after serving two four year terms Roper and Frampton have each served one four year term a piece The city council voted last both Thursday night to combine Fillmore City precincts intoone district Ballots will be cast in the Fillmore City room Library The Fillmore City Council met in special session last Thursday night because of the Fourth of July holiday Cummings said the city council was very pleased with the Fourth of July celebration in Fillmore Council members said they felt the Fillmore Area Chamber of Commerce did an excellent job with the celebration and the Parade Committee put together a fine parade During the meeting the Millard County Sheriff s Office reported there were no major problems during Old Capitol Days or the Fourth of July weekend in Fillmore From a law enforcement perspective both events were quiet celebrations In other action the council renewed its contract with Fillmore City Attorney Jim Slavens Slavens was retained on a as needed basis and given a one year contract Fillmore City will pay Slavens S85 per hour Slavens works as a deputy county attorney with the Millard County Attorney's Office Capacity crowds for demolition derby '''£ WW3Lj 1 Oh what a crash!
