February 21 The fair is open to all 6th 7th and 8 th grade students students will bring Participating their projects to Mrs Crosland before school on Feb 2 Then the projects will be judged by local leaders and businessmen “Utah Power and Light will be judging the electrical projects” said Mrs Crosland “We also have other judges from around the community" Every student that participates will receive a nbbon and a certificate “We would like to invite parents to come see the projects 12 00 to 330 pm on Tuesday and 800 am to 330 pm on Wednesday” said Mrs Crosland Thanks from Mr Henrie’s class Mr Henrie’s Eighth Chadc chemistry classes recently spent an afternoon touring the IPP site The water lab and the coal lab The field trip was very interesting and the students were able to see During this three day period they attended seminars and worked together to become belter educators During their absence from the regular classroom SUU block students from Cedar City taught theirclasscs (sec accompanying article) Wednesdays in service activities cluded computer instruction in our lab from Sharon Judd Sharon attempted to familiarize teachers with new programs that have been added to our hard drive Practice lime was given to teachers so they could experience learning from a approach Nola Kapler and Elaine Rose also provided teacher in the new slate assessment for Math and Art Thursday a group of teachers on our Centennial School Climate and Committee traveled to Salt i r success! Aaron Ralfool of St George Sabel Lafferty of Kanosh daughter of Charlie and Gari Lafferty Kristina Redfixit of Fillmore daughter of Sherma Redfoot and granddaughter of Madelan Redfoot Wc so appreciate these Native Americans joining our Pow Wow They are great dancers and added much to the spirit of the festive evening We also thank Beverly Sherman one of our SUU block students who is also a Native American for joining with us at our Pow Wow Both boy and girl dancers shared several dances they had been taught by Vanessa during these past two weeks We were very impressed with the skills they picked up after only one or two lessons with this talented artist The crowd was visibly entertained with the two Finale numbers the first of which was "girl’s choice" and the second was a friendship dance Students wore beaded chokers and other regalia they had made during the past two weeks All dancing was done in moccasins or slocking feet The outfits and regalia of the Native Americans was indeed very impressive (see picture) We thank the Arts Council for coordinating this two week learning experience at our school Wc look forward to future residencies and hope they will be of equal worth to the students and community wc serve Lake and Provo to research the possibility of installing an active beehive on our school campus They also visited with an interior designer to determine ways to beautify our somewhat “boring corridors” Other teachers worked on curriculum development and Centennial School committee work Fnday we had a Character Education seminar enuilcd “The Best is Within Them” presented by Dr Richard Kay a retired BYU professor Our day with Dr Kay was indeed rewarding as he taught us ways to help make students more responsible learners and citizens of our school and commumues We thank Caren Nielsen and the Centennial Schools Character Education Committee for coordinating this workshop It’s great to be a student and a teacher! We do look forward to returning to our classrooms with renewed vim and vigor! |
