Passing the buck is as old as lime itself “It’s her fault" "He didn’t do that so I couldn’t do this" "It’s always been like this so why try?” The immature person blames others the boss fate luck the neighbors - anyone or anything but one’s self The practice of blaming others keeps us from learning Instead of recognizing failure for w hat it is simply a part of the learning process We get caught in a vicious circle of making mistakes blaming others not learning making similar mistakes and on so A fundamental truth is " As ye sow so shall ye reap" What it means is that for every cause there w ill be an effect nearly equal in intensity Goixl begets goixl Evil leads to evil There is no benefit in taking praise rewards or credit from others Every lime you cheat someone else you cheat yourself And you can be sure that somewhere someone knows what’s really going on Every right has its equal responsibility For example if you have the right to freedom of speech then do you have the responsibility to admit you made the speech? What about the right to vote? Do you also have the responsibility to make a choice? Tragically loo many people are more concerned with their rights than with their Rights without responsibilities arc called "entitlements" responsibilities Motivated by fear passivity and greed more and more people choose to evade or abdicate personal responsibility and their responsibility to others When neurotic unhappy individuals begin to realize they arc responsible for their present actions as well as their future behavior they are liberated to pursue positive goals and begin experiencing successes Taking responsibility gives us the power to control the direction of our lives The choice between rights and responsibilities vs greed and guile is continually being offered The choice is ours GOAL: $150000 The reality has finally hit home I’m not a kid anymore No matter how much my heart aches to be childlike the practicality of adulthixxl rears its fearsome head As did many of you lixik my children to the King Royal Bros Circus in Fillmore October From a child's eye all may have seemed wonderful Through my eyes things seemed quite sad There were elephants and llamas and ponies and even a giraffe and a pygmy hippo Lions and tigers appeared for a short while in the ring But the animals appeared to quote one observer “pathetic” They did all scent run dow n as though they were tired or something The albino snakes were okay but the circus brings to mind excitement and the spectacular Tlie sparkle most of us remember as being the circus just wasn't there Then tame the items that only an adult might be concerned with The prices especially for those who bought tickets at the gale seemed excessive for what was offered Nothing at a fun event is expected to be cheap but prices still seemed exorbitant (except for the elephant ride Where else could you ride on an elephant for $2)? Seating was also a problem Lack of scats as well as the one side especially having a difficult lime seeing everything was a disappointment The two greatest disappointments for this reluctant adult were First that no restroom facilities were available The circus personnel were unconcerned about the needs of patrons When approached the office the woman said “Gee I just don’t ith the sponsor" It was at that know Wc got in late Guess wc should have chocked point that my second disappointment surfaced The sign on the window read: “Cirus " tickets Tlie Fillmore Chamber of Commerce was sponsor of this event It was a great idea for all of us They offered a unique oppoiiunily to the people of litis area can only hope that the child in us all overlixik the adult we may be The circus is till a favorite of mine and because of that guess w ant to slay small and never be disappointed I've been to smaller circus performances before They may not be as big but they still provided an entertaining time for all Museum News IIy Mark TO THE EDITOR Delta Palladium questions answered Dear “We the People” Your letter in last weeks paper docs not represent the truth regarding the new Delta Palladium fell compelled to try once again to answer this and other questions regarding the sale of the scats in the facility First the people of West Millard should be excited about a facility that will have such impact on our community This is not just a schixil gvnt nor is it just a schixil facility So much time was spent on the design and the naming of the facility to accommodate both the schixil and community programs Community representatives on the Scluxils “Capital Improvement I’rogram" saw an opportunity to save the taxpayers money by building a single fjcihly that could serve both as a gym and auditorium The school board saw that a single facility could save about S25 to 35 million in construction costs over two separate facilities and thousands of dollars in operations and maintenance costs each year the board bonded for Secondly money that could be used for construction of new facilities in both Della and Fillmore These facilities were constructed out of necessity because of age student populations and necessary code updates that were cxjxmsive and cost in old structures The prohibitive amount bonded for was an estimate of the cost of construction of these facilities but was found to be not enough because of the high cost ol construction material due to all the natural disasters n the United Slates over the course of the last few years As a result of the funding shortfall the new facility was lixikcd al with only bench scats This was a w ay that almost S2(8)(88)could be cut off the cost of the facility and used in other areas of the district that needed updates The committee established by the district to give input to the needs inside the facility asked the board if they could offer the scats to the community Money could be raised to upgrade the facility to chair seals at least on the Delta side by the sale of those scats The board granted us the opportunity to see if we can sell the 965 seats As a result of this program the students w ill have comfortable chairs to set in during pep assemblies seminars honor assemblies and other activities held during regular schixil hours Tilts at no cost to the taxpayers! It will also encourage patrons to attend Delta High Schixil and community activities that arc held in the facilities because the scats will have much belter access and will be comfortable and supportive This will also save the taxpayers money because the schixil and community programs will have better paid attendance and therefore put more money into the schixil and community programs This again at no cost to the taxpayer! Finally to say that only the rich or stable can buy these scats is just not true Wc have offered these seats through the Millard School District Foundation because it tan be tax deductible can be made on payments and we tan and will work w ith anyone to see that they can be a part of this opportunity Elderly widPR winkers ows fanners young parents and businesses have purchased 30 should remind everyone seals so far that only about one third of the seats in the facility w ill be for sale (This means unfortunate that approximately 965 scats w ill be for sale and about 30(8) will not) It is unfortunate that you would ask these individuals who can see the sions of a top grade facility for both students and the community to not participate in this partnership If you would like to stop by my office and lixik at the list of people you will see that most will not use the seats at every event at the schixil Some will never use their seals In fact most bought a seat to be a part of the schixd and its commitment to the education of your children and mine Don’t ask that the schixil deny this opportunity This is not the rich against the unstable it’s the commitment of the community to the schixil and its children In regards to the lifetime ownership of the seals We are promoting the use of the seals for a lifetime However every five years a small contribution will be asked for by the schixil u the original donors of the seats They can pay this fee and receive the rights to the scats fur the next five years (The cost of the seals do not give access to the activities tickets must still be purchased) The reason for this renewal is to purge the system of those ho have no desire to atlend the activities of the schixil This prixess will make available those seats I might add that this idea of upgrading facilities by selling seats is not a new idea It has been done at every and basketball facility It was done to benefit the students sports program and the community am proud to be a part of this program and extremely proud of those who have willingly come forward and huteil to this upgrade partnership We w ill be asking others in the near future to participate in this program Should you have questions or comments about the Foundation or about the sale of the scats please feci free to come into my office for a chat Rex Stanvmrth President Millard Schixil District Foundation Feedback Circular FBmore: By Terre Smith Fourth Thursday Utah League of Writer's Delta Chapter meeting 7 pm Every Other Saturday AA Women's group 51 N Center Delta Adverfet"? because of the Jinosaurs not me My experience was unique and more pleasant than all the international exposure I've had because it was personal Apparently a k)t of people read the Chronicle Progress People who talked to me (many of whom don't know) somehow seemed to relate to the event the lix:aiion is known by many and they liked the old car Many asked if there is going to be more I said yes as space permits thanks to Frank Beckwith Sr James A Jensen 4) The Mormon Pioneers brought the lirst permanent flag of the United States into the valley of the Great Salt Lake bile the territory as still Mexican Soil When the Mormons left Illinois the official Hag bore 28 stars By the lime they reached the Valley the 29th star had been added The first celebration and display of the US Flag on American Soil did not occur until July 24 849 just twenty days before the 30th star had been added On July 24 a Hag 35 hy 60 feel was llown from a Liberty Pole 104 feel tall Consideration had been given to celebrating the 4lh of July but due to laic maturing of the crops the celebration was postponed until the 24th the 2nd anniversary of the entrance of the Mormon Pioneers into the valley Brigham Young records on that same date “In the evening my Hag that used to fly from the Nauvoo Temple was hoisted at the east side of the bowery" Utah’s next flag was that of the promised State of Deseret This flag also had 3 red and white stripes w ith a field of blue in the upx-- left hand comer However the field of blue contains an eagle with out stretched w ings w ith 13 stars above the eagle An additional larger star rests on the wing ol the eagle representing the State of Deseret The eagle also has one talon resting on a beehive Tit is new flag was designed for the occasion of July 4 1851 The proposal for recognition of the State of Dcscrcl had been rejected and a much reduced T crritorial Icadquariers until late in 85 This flag was flown for several years and was always referred to as the "Great Flag of Deseret” With the creation of the L'tili Territory a new Dag w as designed The Territorial Flag also included 13 red and white stripes ith the eagle beehive and star of Deseret in the field of blue However the eagle is encircled by the 13 stars and standing on top of the beehive The beehive rests on lop of the larger Star of Deseret This was the flag that was flown over the Siaichousc here in Fillmore during the Territorial and was down over the territory until the Civil War Legislatures from pcriixl In 1866 Brigham Young wrote “We have no Territorial Flag Our flag is the Tins w as intended to show Utah’s love and flag of the nation the stars and concern for the Union and a desire to help bind up the wounds of division and diversity that had occurred betw een the Mormons and Congress during their al tempts to attain statchixxl Finally after nearly 48 ears of petitioning lor statchixxl Utah as admitted to the Union on January 4 896 ith this at lucv ement a stale llag was created a few years later and this is the same state Hag that we have today It also includes the eagle and the beehive in iu design A description of all the Hags that have down over the Utah area is available at the Territorial Siaichousc Museum in Fillmore We invite you to come and sec the building and museum collection from the time Kriixl of the Utah Territory The museum is open management specialist and marketing specialists They w ill follow the Integrated Resource Management (I RM) principles using group expertise to enhance profitability and to solve problems It is quite obvious that the cattle industry is facing some trying times Prixluccrs willing to make adjustments in their production anil management programs stand a better chance of being around w hen this lull in tlie cattle cycle turns up Ranchers to shift their mind set from being pnxluction driven to consumer driven will produce a product more appealing to consumers Tins will in lum yield a be tier market for the pnxhicl e can be extremely ef icienl at producing a product but if the consumer dixisn'l like il there is no market for it Ranchers also need to shift from being ouiput oriented (larger bigger) to being more conscious of cost effective inputs c have concentrated so hard on pnxlucing bigger calves wc may be doing it al a cost higher than prixlucing the smaller and therefore more profitable calf Tins brings us to another salient record point It is a the future if you don’t know w here you keeping impossible to chart course for have been The Cattlemen s Satellite Shortcourse w
