Show Millard Countv Chronicle Progress tor Dixie Talbot Hinckley City Council member Dan Johnson race organizer Paul Fowles Hinckley Lions Club President and Hinckley Mayor Ken Talbot August 11 1994 Page 3 L Millard Hinckley Lions donate $350 to the Pioneer Classic Beverly Evans Hinckley Lions recently presented a check for S350 to the Annual Pioneer Classic Race Committee The race is a race run in conjunction with Hinckley Pioneer Day Activities Thanks to the efforts by the Lions every participant in the race received a commemorative The race is expected to be an annual event and with assistance by organizations such as the Lions future races are ensured Government Efficiency and Fraud Hotline The Office of ihe Stale Auditor provides through its Government Efficiency and Fraud Hotline a place to report suspected violations of law or waste of public funds by state and local governmental entities as well as a place to offer constructive suggestions for improving slate and local government The Hotline has been in existence since December 1991 and has received since that time approximately 175 calls Each phone call or letter received through the Hotline is reviewed and a decision made by the Auditor’s Office as to the appropriate action In cases where criminal allegations arc not present a request is made to the state agency or local government for a written sponse to the allegation or suggestion This response is then evaluated in conr nexion with the complaint and a is made regarding disposition This disposition may be a referral to the Attorney General’s Office or local law enforcement agency a followup by the State Auditor’s Office or it may be to accept the government entity ’s explanation and forward a copy of that explanation to the complainant No government employee should fear reprisal from his or her employer for making suggestions or reporting suspected violations of law or inefficiencies Government employees arc protected by the State Whistleblower Statute from reprisals by an employer for reporting in good faith suspected illegal acts or waste of public funds The employee is further protected if he or she formally communicates the suspected violation or waste to the State Auditor A call or letter to the Hotline identifying yourself will provide the necessary communication to invoke the protection of the Whistleblower Statute The local phone number for the Government Efficiency and Fraud Hotand the after hours and line is toll free number is Speaking of exercise You’ve heard what exercise can do for your body haven't you? According to “Health Psychology" exercise can lower your blood pressure strengthen your heart build muscle strength and flexibility improve cholesterol factors and help you control weight (and that’s just a start) But exercise can also help your mind In fact a recent Stanford University research study of more than men and women found 350 that by getting aerobics exercise at least three limes a week study participants experienced a nearly 30 percent reduction in levels of stress anxiety and depression Evans to present workshop “Women can make a difference” according to Beverly Evans representative Legislature She's presenting that very topic at the Central Utah Women's Conference next month Mrs Evans received her MS Degree from Utah Stale University and presently serves as the custom fit coordinator for Uintah Basin Applied Technology center She has represented Duchesne and Wasatch counties in the Utah State Legislature for the past eight years Early in her political career Beverly found that women were not always taken seriously Her interest in her community’s welfare spurred her to continue with political pursuits despite opposition When asked to respond to a political opponent w ho referred to her as “a joke” her dignified reply was “I'm sure he's a very nice man I’m just not going to vote for him" Her genuine interest in community and refusal to wallow in gutter tactics quickly endeared her to her political constituents She now serves as chairperson of both the Education Standing and Retirement committees of the legislature Through the years Beverly has of savings bond were ’ers competing presented to Millard in USU’s Stale Contests Heather Nichollsreceivcd a trip to Denver for the best horse demonstration A S200 savings bond was awarded to Hans Watson for the best dairy foods demonstration The horse judging team of Stephanie Bumhurst Trampis Fleming Sandy Imlay and Heather Nicholls all received trips to Denver to compete in the horse at the Denver judging competition Roundup in January Beth Hulin received second place for horse public speaking and will be the al tematc trip winner if for any reason the first place winner is unable to attend Katherine Bunker received a special recognition award for detail in a dress she constructed for the Style Dress Review Katherine also received a blue ribbon for her dress In the talent contest Heather Comcau received two third place aw ards and blue ribbons for both piano and instrumental Ginger Christensen received a blue ribbon for piano Shelly Nixon and Maline Robison received blue ribbons in variety and a blue ribbon in vocal was awarded to DeAnn Wamick Public speaking awards went to Mindy Coals and Michelle Sianworih for ag public speaking and to Brent Smith for public speaking In the area of demonstrations blue ribbons were awarded to Amanda Monroe and Nicole Robbins fora home cc demonstration Kristina Pedersen for and food and nutrition demonstration and DeAnn Wamick for her beef ambassador demonstration The shooting sports team of Brett r Bunker Jamie Stanworth Kurt and Mike Wankier received blue ribbons as well as capturing third place in both rifle and shotgun shooting
