KLGG-Fis authorized to broadcast on 957 Mhz at 100000 watts Shari Ashw orth of Fillmore is known for a lot of things in Millard County Firstly a lot of people have watched her evolve over the years from young married woman to mother of four and a ’vocal’ member of the community offering her singing talents to a number of occasions Mrs Ashworth and her husband Mike have operated a successful insurance company w ith offices on both sides of the county She and Mike have been implcmcntal in developing the ATV Jamboree in Fillmore which takes place every June Shari has also been honored for her efforts in developing tourism ir the county working with the direction of Glen Sw albcrg of Delta And while a lot of people think they may know Shari there is another side of her that they may not suspect Until recently that is Until she decided to release a musical tape called appropriately “It's My Song" Shari released the tape several months ago and has made the tape the - her cornerstone of a foundation “Dream Foundation" -- which she hopes in time will be able to financially assist women and children who have been victims of abuse Shari is candid about abuse She says she has experienced it in many forms B ut she quickly adds that she is"a healed survivor” and says that she is now for way to help others who may be suffering too "It isn’t really a question of abuse" says Shari “The question is: do any of us come to adulthood without experiencing some form of the discounting Is there ever a w hole perfect child raised? Maybe it is like the Bible says the sins of the Fathers are visited on the children” Shari wants to help others heal - not dwell on the past And she says this is the purpose of the foundation and the tape she has recorded The production of the tape is the culmination of a dream for Shari She says she has wanted to record before but it wasn't until the until she had a purpose concept of the Dream Foundation formed in her mind that her desire to enter a recording studio was realized “It just didn’t come together before I couldn't do it just forme I had to have a cause" says Shari Once the Dream Foundation concept struck Shari says everything then fell into her lap and into place The "It’s My Song" tape was funded by someone Shari calls her Guardian Angel She won't divulge the identity of the person who came to her as a surprise offering a gift of money to make the recording "This person said that I had a gift and I must share it with others" explains Shari Once Shari had committed to the project and she had the money she booked time at the Priddis Studios in Pleasant Grove and spent three days recording her interpretations of songs that she fell would offer healing messages to the emotionally damaged “I chose these songs from the heart They impacted me from my toes to my head" said Shari “Each of these songs is critical to healing and love” The title cut "It's My Song" is the number “I first heard least it when my son’s sixth grade class sang it four years ago" said Shari “It’s probably the most empowering song to move on” she says Her version cludes achildrcn's chorus “It just had to have kids" she says Other songs include: "Love Will Build a Bridge” a rendition of “You've Got a Friend” a dense and layered “Women in Chains" written by Tears for Fears "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong”“Wind Beneath My Wings" and "If We Hold On Together” “I chose every song purposefully” says Shari "The recording studio had instrumental tracks for all of the popular numbers except the title cut "We had to arrange “It’s My Song" says Shari She says that a good portion of the tape’s costs is directed toward paying the royalties to the songwriters involved "But I don't mind paying the royalties because the songs work" says Shari Shari adds that the net profits from the tapes will be directed toward assisting efforts for women who have been abused and their children “There’s always money for immediate needs like food shelter and the basic necessities" she adds "But rarely is money available for things like programs and enrichother personal ment programs And this is what we need so badly If people can feel good about themselves they arc less likely to go back to an abusive relationship or situation And that breaks the cycle of abuse Through education things can be changed” Shari also wants to be able to offer grant monies through the Dream Foundation and that funding may be available as early as 1994 "If I can help one person then I've done what I set out to do” she adds The Foundation is only one month old and Shari says that she is already seeing progress "There is too much to be done and it must be done so quickly and to so many" she reveals "I've sold almost all of the first batch of tapes and we'U be making more” Shari has also been invited to participate at the Governor's Council on Victims Conference on April 29th The conference will be attended by the directors of social agencies and victim advocacy programs “It's My Song” tapes are available locally through the Ashworth's Insurance Agencies in Delta and Fillmore at Fcrgs Baker's Drugs and Ben Franklin's in Fillmore and at the Paradise Chevron station near the Fillmore north freeway entrance Shari his also made tapes available at the New Horizons in Richfield and at family crisis centers and shelters for abused women tad children Shari is writing original songs for her next tape and has four completed "I was so caught up with who I wasn’t" muses Shari "But what I’ve learned is that I’m entitled to dream" "My pure purpose was to fulfill my lifelong dream and offer to all those who listen to it a window of hope to assist others to heal grow love live and dream their own dreams too” (Hint: It is recommended that you listen to the tape through headphones and Shari says that most purchasers listen to the tapes alone) Progress March 1993 Pane him" "What the County doesn’t seem to understand is that they have broken the law They have advertised falsely and that's fraudulent They also say they want outside business and they are interested in attracting outside interests to this area Well if I'm treated like this how are they going to treat these businesses? If I’m gelling stonewalled here what kind of walls will they build for others?" Mr Newman continues: "All I wanted was a fair interview and a fair job My application was thrown out the window and I hate to see the job go to someone based simply on who they are It’s prejudicial" Mr Newman says his quest for answers is not a dead issue "I tried to work through the system here and it didn’t work Now I’m going to pursue this through lines other than through Millard County" Mr Newman has written another letter to Doug Holliday at Governor Leavitt’s office He has written: "I feel like no one is giving me a straight answer Thayne Henrie is responsible to the Commissioners and the Commissioners are responsible to the people Could someone look into this area to see if there is something that can be done? Please?" He includes a transcript of the above conversations And Mrs Newman wonders: “Why is this woman Lana Moon over the road department in the first place if she doesn't know anything about the job? I’m tired of apologies If you’re over the road department shouldn't you at least know what the job requires?" Simple? No Easy? Not according to Mr Newman who says "They’ve messed with the wrong guy this time” " ‘The Qotd‘lgom PM Open SEAFOOD SPECIALS PLUS STEAKS 171 Drinkall-Bake- r & PRIME RIB IP 'Main 'Delta Utah Duo Concert The West Millard Cultural Council in conjunction with the Utah Arts Council is proud to sponsor the Duo in a concert on Thursday March 25 1993 at 7:30 pm at the Delta High School Auditorium Formed in 1986 the Dnnkall Baker Duo has rapidly become one of America’s leading duos With an extensive repertoire for all settings the Duo performs over sixty chamber music and orchestral concerti concerts each season Debut tours in Central and South America and the Far East brought the highest critical acclaim and requests for immediate return engagements Three hundred concerts in 8 countries have taken them to both coasts of the US from Nicaragua to Argentina Japan to Singapore and India to Hong Kong An unusual feature of the Duo is that they perform their programs entirely from memory resulting in an exciting collaboration of two soloists They have recently signed an exclusive contract with the Pyramid Records label (Paris) to produce three CD's each season The Duo’s love of music and musicians of all ages has led to numerous invitations on three continents for informal young people’s concerts as well as formal concerts and masterclasses Cellist Roger Drinkall has graced the world’s concert stages for nearly three decades performing thousands of concerts as soloist and recitalist in thirty countries on four continents He has recorded extensively for several European and Asian networks including TV specials for China Fhanist Dian Baker has quickly established herself as an unusually versatile artist and consummate young artist By age Fifteen she had captured national awards both on piano and violin and made her solo debut with the Utah Symphony As a pianist she has performed in both solo and chamber concerts on three continents We are extremely fortunate to have such an impressive Duo come to our area to perform It is hoped that many people will want to take advantage of this opportunity Tickets are only 5300 each or 51200 per family Contact Ron for more informaDraper at tion 3 continued that they had submitted a variety of job given different job deapplications scriptions to the applicants She said she felt this confused the issue A spokesperson for Job Service emphatically states that “absolutely no way” could this have happened Job Service uses only one standardized form for the applicants to use when applying for work with any employer only the direction the application is to go is changed But Mr Newman says that it was Commissioner Frank B aker’s responses that confused him most During the Commission meeting Commissioner Baker staled: “I haven't read the resumes and I wasn’t in the interviews but there are two men and maybe three that were qualified as Journeymen mechanics in my opinion” Moon interrupted: Commissioner “Now wail a minute how can you make that opinion when you haven’t read the resumes?" Baker responded: Commissioner “Well I haven’t fanned in Delta for 34 years without knowing who the good mechanics arc" Commissioner Moon said: "Excuse me two of them are brand new to the area who you don’t know" Mr Newman say s that his conviction that the job is “wired for a certain person" is not without substance Mr Newman asked the Commissioners: “As this position for an apprentice pays only 5100 less than that of a Journeyman why would you want to train someone when you had six qualified applicants?" Baker responded: Commissioner “So we could get a poorer man and not get things fixed as well" Mr Newman was surprised "Pardon me: Commissioner Baker repeated his answer (Commissioner Bakery for the record later slated angrily: “ "Hire the best man for the job and you won’t be in a jam like wc are in here today") Mr Newman says he wonders many things now like what kind of tools the apprentice mechanic will bring to the job "Heck if it’s a broom and dustpan” says Mr Newman "I can pick them up at Ben Franklin tomorrow" "They didn't want any qualified applicants" says Mr Newman “And they didn’t expect to gel so many They have someone handpicked for this job and are rewriting the description to fit Park plan approved The General Management Plan for Great Basin National Park has been approved The planning process which began shortly after the park was established in October 986 was brought to a conclusion with the approval of a Record of Decision in March 1993 The General Management Plan sets forth the basic management philosophy for the park and provides strategies for addressing issues and achieving identified objectives over a fifteen year period The Plan also General Management dresses the management of park sources and provides for appropriate visitor use and interpretation of the sources The proposed action presented in the General Management Plan is designed to address management concerns lated to access increased visitation and the provision of adequate visitor facilities and programs Resource management issues such as mining grazing the protection of threatened and endangered plants and animals and the preservation of important scenic natural geologic and cultural resource values are also addressed Copies of the Record of Decision and the General Management Plan may be obtained by writing to the Superintendent Great B asin N ational Park Baker Nevada 89311 18 Dead End FREE Double Prints or 4x6 Prints Every Thursday with Film Developing 40 N 300 W Delta Utah 864-240- 0 |
