Show Millard Countv Chronicle Serving with pleasure Progress February 25 1993 Pace 5 Run Ktnrudy February 17 the Delta Area Youth City Council sponsored its annual dinner and program for the Sands Apartments residents It was well attended with nearly every one of the residents in attendance The guests were served a dinner of ham potatoes vegetables rolls punch and a personalized Valentine cookie Quality Thriftway generously donated the two hams for the dinner A short program was organized by Jackie Peterson DAYCC member Brad Hintze played two piano selections Jimie Nielsen sang a song Amanda Brad field played the saxophone and Maline Robison entertained the group with a comedy routine DAYCC Mayor Russell Kennedy said "I thought it went well It was a nice dinner and a well organized program We would certainly like to thank all those who participated in this very worthwhile evenL" The Trap was Sprung! Heather Comeau many people were or eating over sleeping partying Christmas vacation a few DHS students were practicing a murder These students part of the murder mystery production of Mousetrap began reading and memorizing lines over the holiday in December Practices for the play began in January and continued until February 8 Brandon Bringhurst Jamey Stanworth David Nicklc Rick Murdock John Ford Melissa Sty ler Trystin Nicklc and Chellese Byrd met everyday after school to practice Stephanie Morgan and Sarah Kersey served as Student Directors The stage crew consisted of Brad Hintze house High School Forensics Squad Seven competitors attended an eight school tournament at Beaver High School Five students finished in the rankings Senior Rosa Lazaro working with a new oration finished seventh Seniors Russ Kennedy and David Nicklc placed first and second respectively in Student Congress Sophomore Morgan Reilly placed first in novice debate and Freshman Gina Sentker finished second in varsity debate Mr H ansen debate coach stated "I (iUHiifl finalists announced mud tug of war contest Jake Anderson said of the tug of w ar “I’m looking forward to the mudpit I was on Dorie Petersen’s team last year and we won I would like a repeat this year for Jenny Ford" The candidates will also present an assembly At the assembly each contestant will perform a talent number and cakes made by the girls will be auctioned to the students The Sweetheart Ball assembly will be held at the high school on March 9 The dance which is dress occasion a semi form alchurch will be held on March 12 in a hi urdock High School FFA is sponsoring the annual Sweetheart Ball and activities The studentbody voted to select ten Senior girls as finalists for Sweetheart Ball Queen The candidates arc: Correction facility conducts assembly Four members of the Security and Enforcement Department at the Gunnison Correction Facility came to Delta South Elementary on Wednesday February 17 to conduct an assembly for students and staff These members of the SAVAT team brought various weapons and equipment they use on their job along with 2 of their trained dogs The first demonstration by Hobbs a Poodle Pointer (a canine very rare to find throughout the world) demonstrated how he was trained to find bombs The second dog Tara showed her skills at slopping a criminal and attacking the criminal if necessary These dogs are trained to understand commands in German so as not to confuse commands a law enforcement official may be giving to a criminal or to the dog Teacher Appreciation Week PTA members and many parents and students expressed their appreciation for faculty and staff at Delta South by giving candy grams balloons door decorations and treats Thanks to everyone for mak ing the
