show on Thurs ScpL 12 from 6 to 10 p m at the Exhibition Bldg at the Fairgrounds Participants are being sought to come and bring their best most s beautiful rocks ore samples and to show Tables will be provided The purpose of the evening is simply to give our West Desert prospectors and rockhounds a chance to share their best finds and visit and maybe trade a little if they want Everyone will begin at pm and end at 3 pm Featured speakers will be Paula Thomas Darla Hawks and Tom Hughes This afternoon promises to be an exceptional opportunity for all women age 6 and over to enjoy Darla Hanks is a wnter editor and lecturer and is the mother of five sons the book "To parents She with love" which went through four printings and the newspaper column This red headed blue eyed little girl had her 1st birthday on Aug 13 Her name is LaCrecia Her brothers Deven Zach and Derek helped her celebrate There was cake and ice cream presents and loads of fun My Dad and Mom are Roger and Sheri Zeeman Grandparents are Fred and Ida K Butler Charles and Beth Zeeman great grandparents are Gilbert and Zella Peay Clarence and Aliene Christensen all from Payson We are all proud of our little girl Happy Birthday sister 'Parent Patter’ Her personal challenges and the concerns women shared with her women's as she spoke at numerous education and BYU conferences weeks led her into the topics of stress depression and self esteem The faith and encouragement she shares will be uplifting and comforting to all women in whatever season of life they may be Toni Hughes Toni Hughes is a licensed Social Service worker with 13 years experience in the area of women’s emotional and physical health concerns She is a popular public speaker and has presented at BYU education week ij) SUGARVILLE Ralph and June Lounsbury and Lois Greene made a trip to American Fork and Provo for doctors appointments Mrs Lois Greene had her son Chuck and wife Mary Ellen from Bear River City visit with her and stay overnight Mrs Ella Porter of Pay son Mrs Lois Greene and Ralph and June Lounsbury made a trip to Clinton for the funeral services of John Mathis husband of Ruth Jenson Mathis Ruth was bom in Sugarville and lived here until after her marriage Our sympathy goes to her and her family in their sorrow Eugene and June Losee had a birthday party for Hilda Oliver at the City Park and also celebrated her sister Ilia Camell’s birthday Many family members attended We wish them many more happy birthdays Eugene and June Losee and sever' members of their families went to Grassy Lake by Orangeville and spent a few days Steve and Carotine Walker ad sons have moved into the old June Hinckley home They have a son on a mission We welcome them into the community Cecil and Barbara Shurtz had their daughter Peggy Walker and six children home for 4 days for a visit Barbara’s sister Kaye and husband Derrell Adams from Salt Lake spent a day with them Keith Shurtz from West Jordan spent a day with his parents Cecil and B arbara Shurtz Eugene Losee celebrated his birth day with all of their family home but one daughter and family They had a barbecue and program Happy birthday Eugene May you have many more Mrs Ralph Lounsbury made a trip to Salt Lake to pick up her grandson Jeremy Gill who is in the Navy and stationed at Whidbey Island just out of Seattle WA He and a crew of other sailors were flown into Hill Air Force B ase to fix a Navy plane that had to make an emergency landing A new motor had to be ordered so he had the day off Ralph and June took Jeremy to see some of his friends and grandmother Gill Then they went to daughter Kay Montoya's and spent the afternoon and part of the evening with her and family Cousin Paul Hardy and daughter Chnsty were there also Jesse and Karen Johnson made a tnp to Salt Lake to help her daughter and Stewart Amell and family move to Eden near Ogden Our get well wishes go to Pete Shields who has had surgery and is still in the hospital in Salt Lake Bill and Choral Gark Bob and Sharon Gark had a family reunion at Puffers Lake Bob and Sharon had their daughter Jo Lynn Steve Caldwell and Matt Peg family from Springville Clark and family from Salt Lake Bill and Choral had their daughter Nancy Bennett Deb Fowles Chns Christensen and families They stayed for 3 days Literacy training conference The Utah Association of Women is holding an extensive training confer ence on literacy "A Thousand Points of Light on Literacy" September 1991 in Salt Lake City to train one These Quality thousand volunteers Tutors will lead a massive statewide effort at eliminating illiteracy among Utah children in the lower elementary grades Linda Eyre Honorary Chairman will give the keynote address on "Volunteensm and the Practical Power of Literacy" These volunteers will then give time 3 in their in the early primary grades own communities helping children who are struggling with reading Sometimes educators have complained that volunteers who work in the schools have not been trained to be of real use to them These volunteers will be quality tutors whose specialized training will make them extremely useful to their supervis ing teachers The Utah Association of Women is still looking for additional volunteers throughout the state of Utah to be trained to work in the literacy program and is looking for business sponsorship
