Show Millard County Chronicle 2 Page Progress August Comments an outdoor recreation survey in the spring of this year and it gave me a good laugh They wanted me to list my top Five recreation activities 0 have 48 choices) and how often I do them and then the top five for the family and how often and then what others I would like What a laugh I couldn’t come up with 5 and at that I had to mark the times a year I probably wouldn’t be so cranky if I could afford some sort of recreation and had the time to do it didn’t have ume to fool Anyway with the survey and it made me mad every time I looked at it because it reminded me that my life has evolved to going to work and going home to the lawn weeds and dirty house I received 3CL1990 Media Man! If you have ever attended the Miss Millard Pageant in eitlier Delta or Fillmore you know the need for air What will $14000000 conditioning the size buy us? A shop at MHS of the present shop and a band room the size of the present but adequate room band This is not an East side versus West side issue Delta needs a new elementary school let’s build it Fillmore desperately needs a new auditorium let’s build it But I question if either Delta or Fillmore need a 3000 plus seat sports arena a mini Centrum? When will the complexes ever need that many seats once every ten years when we host a regional boys basketball tournament or wrestling meet? Even with IPP the 1990 population of 2 6 the entire county is now down to counting men women and children How many taxpayers are there of the 11216 Count the empty businesses and homes in both Delta and Fillmore areas Who is going to be left to pay off the S 14 million dollar bond Each year the tax base from IPP is going down Our taxes will have to go up to offset the money lost from IPP I am for classrooms books science labs and adequate auditoriums and gyms I am not willing to give Superinblank tendent Topham a $14000000 check without knowing what I’m buying Brent C Olson Fillmore Bond election information When in the 1920 Olympics Theresa Weld of the U S became the first woman to attempt a jump in figure skating competition in the 1920 Olymfor her “unfeminine behavior" pics she was reprimanded Fillmore area Delta area by Jay T Rogers by Reed Jeffery Community calendar Motor Vehicle Schedule: Fillmore & Delta weekdays Millard County Assessor’s Office Great Basin Historical Society Museum open Monday - Possibly but this is a board decision But with the tremendous tax base afforded the district now we may never have a chance to build these again in the future with as small of tax increase to the taxpayer For the proa posed 14 million dollar package $70000 homeowner would pay less than 40 dollars a year additional tax The committee fell that this was a small price to pay for the children of the county Keep in mind that one million dollars will be provided to the improvement of classroom tools such as computers chemistry and biology labs shop tools and equipment special texts snd other supplies to bring cur schools into the twentieth century If you do have questions on a certain portion of the proposed package contact your school board representative He is your elected representative He can carry your concerns back to the board as a body Finally I would say that there is a need to hurry in the decision Let’s take advantage of the bond market and the ability to invest the money and gain the interest from this investment (Federal statues only allow the investment of 5 million dollars of bond money per year Any investment earnings above this amount goes directly to the federal coffers) Five million dollars a year for 90 and Five million for 91 could mean almost 200000 dollars of earned interest to the school district I realize that there is concern about the spending of any tax dollars or bonding for their expenditures I share the same concerns and that is why I accepted the challenge of being on die committee It is my opinion that this is the greatest financial deal that Millard County taxpayers could ask or hope for Let’s do what is right for the kids and not allow jealousy to creep into the decision making process All our work to have IPP built here in our community and the problems and headaches that it has brought I feel like entitles us to the utilization of its tax base Please attend the meetings Hear the facts and then ask the questions I believe that you will vote in favor of the package Rex Stanworth r by Ken (tkket to write ) Rand D’jever notice when you go to the movies you give somebody usually a teenager a lot of money then they give you a ticket and then a few feet away another person usually the ticket seller’s boyfriend or girlfriend dressed up like an Iraqi army general takes the ticket you just bought from you rip it in half keeps one piece and gives you the other? Have you ever wondered just a bit why they do that? Me loo Maybe the tkket you got from the second the first person was loo big so person had to cut it in half But who decides how big a tkket should be? Is there a Movie Ticket Size Association governing these things? That doesn’t make sense Some tickets are smaller than others (none are big enough to make into a decent paper airplane) but whatever the ticket size there is always a ticket taker to tear it in half If the tkket is too big to begin with why doesn't the ticket seller just sell you half a ticket instead of using a ticket taker to tear it in half? Why not just sell you a tkket half the size of the one the ticket seller sells you that the tkket taker tears in half and just skip all that tkket tearing entirely? Maybe when the show ends the ticket takers and tkket sellers take the ticket stubs to the Ticket Stub Recycler where they get 21 cents a pound for them Still environmentalists cry out that thousands of trees must be sacrificed each year for this wasteful practice Down With Ticket Takers? some say End Tkket Abuse! others cry Economists fear ending ticket taking would unfairly burden taxpayers with all thosq ticket taken on welfare Think of die Retraining! some say Think of The Columbia School of Ticket Taking Closing it’s Doors! othen cry I don't want to discourage young readen whose ambition in life is to grow up and wear the uniform of a professional ticket taker for the nations’ movie theaten following the footsteps of such famed ex ticket taken as President Gerald Ford Sen Jake Gam Vanna White and Pete Rose but I think there’s a conspiracy here and it’s my job as s j columnist to ferret it out especially if it could mean a Pulitzer Prize I may have stumbled onto a plot as sneaky as what caps and lids the m alien of did to headache medicine sales I have enlisted the Informed Sourecr and his female sidekkk Miss Quote (“That’s ’Ms Quote’ to you buddy") to help in my investigation but I am still short of data You can help Here's ho w: Next ume you go to a movie ask the tkket taker to tear your tkket Into four pieces instead of two Note the reaction (Beware of the ticket taker with the Samurai sword) A variation on the same theme is to ask them to tear it lengthwise instead of across the middle or ask them to tear it diagonally or into complex shapes Tell the ticket laker you want your ticket tom in the shape of Madonna's profile and see what happens — After they tear the tkket in half whichever half they give you tell them they gave you the wrong half that you want the other half Especially if they have already put in into a box insist they get it out and trade it for die one they gave you Tear the ticket in half yourself before you get to the ticket taker Hide half bn each hand and insist the ticket taker guess which hand holds his half (Will the ticket tearer send you back to the ticket seller to get a whole ticket for them to tear?) - Don’t let go of the ticket Tell the tkket taker he must tear it while you hold it Wear robber gloves Sneak in a fake ticket made of steel and give it to the ticket taker Also try - - - Silly Puny putting salt and butter on a box of ticket stubs Does it taste like movie theater popcorn to you? — I also want to interview people who save tkket stubs to find out why they do it Do they stick the halves back together to make whole tickets so they can sneak into the next movie free? Do they role them up into balls like people who save string and tinfoil do?
