like when the Rock School in Fillmore Utah reopens Saturday August 18 The Rock School is located on the same block as the Territorial Statehousc 50 W Capitol Ave Both buildings are located directly behind the Millard County Courthouse The Rock School was the third schoolhouse built in Fillmore and was completed in 1861 said Matt Sheridan manager of the Territorial Statehousc Slate Park The school was in use until 1920 The building is now listed on both the National and Utah Registers of Historic Sites Renovation work was completed last year Open house activities are free to the public and will run from 0 am - 2 p un on August 8 Sheridan said A school teacher from Fillmore dressed in pioneer clothing will discuss the differences between today’s teaching and the school teaching of pioneer times Students who attended the school are vited to participate and share their experiences Displays setup in the school will also nm Hunter spent the past week with daughter Verona in Salt will be the new Drama and Spanish teacher at Millard High this year We hope they will enjoy living in Holden Bonnie Christensen has returned from a week in Mexico She went with her daughter Sandy and her daughter Sarah and two Margene Bennett and LaNila Kimball Venna Copping moved to Idaho this weeV Her son came from Idaho and ''"'helped her move'Wd will miss Venna who has lived in Holden 17 years Visiting Otto and Allie last weekend were their son Dr Aarl Hunter and wife Ann and four children of Danville California The Aarl Hunter family spoke at Sacrament meeting in Holden on Sunday including their daughter Dana who has recently returned from a mission to Bolivia Visiting Orlene Christensen last week two of Sharon's sons and Jeanne's son Orlene took them back to St George and traded them for two more grandsons and brought them back to Holden for a visit Grant and Gcneal Stevens have had all of their family home recently for a family reunion Roland and Janice and twin Despite the cloudy windy weather there was a terrific turn out for story hour Lori Kofoed read “Once There Was a Knight” which shows interesting costumes and equipment for a Knight An appropriate filmstrip called “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” was shown Then outside we went fortunately the wind and rain had stopped and the children had an opportunity to ride in of 3 old time cars Next week is the last was saddened with the death of Ted Jackson in Utah Valley Hospital in Provo Aug 2 We extend our sympathy to his wife Norma and their children and his mother Noma Jackson his brothers and their families Dena Anderson has been employed in Cedar City during the summer She has returned home to get ready for her senior high school year coming up soon Clem and Lora Utley are feeling quite alone now Their daughter Tami Benson and children David Keith and Loren of San Antonio have spent a month in Utah She spent some of their time with her husband (Roland's) parents David and Madelyn Benson at Mapleton Roland was here for several days the first part of July He and Tami and children attended a missionary testimonial for his brother The Utley’s children and families left Mon Aug 6 On Aug 5 Gem and Lora attended the marriage of their grandson Michael Shane Utley and Michelle Mair in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple A week earlier Shane and Michelle went through the Provo LDS Temple to receive their endowments Clem and Lora's children besides Tami Sam and Joann Utley and children Jonathan Tiffany and David came from their home in Alta Loma CA their son Sammy could not come because of his job Tony and wife of Nevada also were unable to come Michael and Kathy Utley of Heber parents of the groom hosted a wedding breakfast in Salt Lake City for 46 guests In the evening a reception honored the newlyweds It was hosted by the bride’s parents Stan and Edith Mair in Heber 500 relatives and friends signed the guest book Royal and Garice Hurd and daughter Connie and Michelle stopped to see her mother Ruth Allen and were overnight guests Aug 3 The Hurds were on their way to St George to visit their three sons wives and children and their daughter her husband and family The Hurds stopped by to spend a short lime with mother Ruth Aug 6 on their way to their home in Orem On Aug 5 Rex and Lynn Allen Dean and Shirley Allen took their mother Ruth Allen with them to Lakeshore to daughters Melanie and Marianne and their married son Shawn wife Nancy and baby all drove down from Renton Washington and spent five days Joining them for a visit were Grant and Gencal's three daughters Sharon Marlcr of Rexburg Idaho Peggy Butler of Fairview and Bonnie Dcardcn and husband Tony of Fillmore and children Also driving over from Richfield were Peggy’s daughter Janette Reynolds and family Bonnie and Tony's children Stephanie Cooley and baby of SLC Darren and Lyridta of Fillmore and Dwight and girlfriend Mary of Orem and Patricia and Jeff Rasmussen of Fillmore Driving down Territorial Statehousc State Park The is Utah’s oldest existing governmental building It was constructed under Brigham Young’s direction to house the state's capitol The south wing was completed in time for the December 1858 meeting of the Territorial Legislature In December 1858 the seat of government was returned to Salt Lake City and any further construction on the statehousc was halted The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers restored the Territorial Statehousc and reopened it as a museum in 930 Today it houses a pioneer collection as well as items from the late 19th and early 20th centuries rescue vehicle that accompanies ambulances now on all accidents Recently Fireman Bill Emmett had the opportunity to give a teddy bear to a tiny girl who’s family had been badly injured in an accident
