Mark Mortang See FAIR page by 0 80 No Vol 2 July 1989 13 Ken Rand Hundreds of people lined Delta’s Main Street on the morning of July 4th to witness the annual parade Several hundred more were in the parade itself or were involved in efforts Quin Shepherd was Grand Marshall a good Theme for the day was wind a blowin’’’ The day’s activities began with a Jeep Posse sunrise salute at 6 a m The Delta Second Ward began serving bieaktast in the city park at 7 a m The children’s parade began shortly after 9 a m and was quickly followed by the main parade The main parade was led by members of the American legion Albert Cahoon Post 135 carrying the flag The color guard was followed by floats cars trucks firetrucks vans buggies wagons cycles horses llamas dogs and a gorilla Participants included the county commissioners the Jeep Posse Classy Chassis Delta High Tri Dels DHS band School cheerleaders the Delta and Hinckley several businesses fire departments Delta City the City Library Millard Delta County Sheriffs Department City Police Hinckley Lion’s Club demolition derby contestants and their Search and Rescue cars churches Miss Liberty royalty 4H Sweethearts Boy Scouts little league mcmbcis and several others Mayor Ruth Hansen was not in the parade She was in Pans with the Delta High School acappella choir and their chaperones where they were incited to See 4TH page 2 jpirIIIFT— Ray Brown Stan Black Commander American Sgt at Arms Legion Cahoon Post 133 and left it !fl 2 Demo derby a bit 4H Sweethearts Among participants in the 4th July parade and celebration in Delta were the west Millard County 4H Sweethearts Heather Nicholls (center) is this years Sweetheart First Attendant is Sarah Daughters (right) Second Attendant is Justin Anderson (left) All are from Hinckley of Eight girls and one boy entered this years competition Saturday June 24 Judges from out of town looked at entrant's horsemanship and an interview was conducted The 4H Sweetheart royalty will participate in the Pionee r Days parade and celebration in Hinckley Saturday July 22 and in the Ute Stampede horse parade in Nephi The 4H Sweetheart tradition goes back at least 15 years Station wagons were popular in the derby Number 17 was entered by Ted Fullmer number The Hinckley Lion’s Club demolition derby drew hundreds of fans and 24 cars and drivers to the Deseret fairgrounds Tuesday July 4 for the 15th annual event The evening began with drag races won by Darin Hardy Three destruction heats look place to prepare for the main event Justin Row kite Timothy Hurst and Willie Fullmer survived the ftrst heat Norman Robinson Mike Van and Kevin Jones survived tlie second I teat and AnDavid Abbott and dy Thompson Chuck Lambert survived the third heat to make up the entrants in the final event 13 Hinckley Rodeo to be held early was entered by Andy Thompson In the main event Justin Rowlette and Norman Robinson tied for first place They split first and second place prize money and tossed a coin for the the two trophies Andy Thompson was third Thirteen cars entered the powder puff event Fust place was Jane McDermaid second was Marcie Hansen thud was Lisa Abbott Cleve Bohne won the wipeout in which 19 tars entered Best looking car was entered by Timothy Hurst Most aggressive was Andy Thompson In all S 575 in cash and 10 trophies were awarded to drivers About 80 area businesses got involv- -
