Nurses learn resusitation technique Nurses at the Delta Communi'y Medical Center are learning the basics of emergency resusitation of infants and newborns The course is sponsored nationally by the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics “It has just been out for a couole ol years” instructor Debbie Shelley said “and they’re trying to get rural hospitals across the nation to become familiar with this approach to resusuating a baby” Shelley is maternal newborn at Delta Other instructors are Marsha Ntckle and Ron Draper “We were trained by some staff at Utah Valley Hospital who are on the national faculty of the American Heart Association’s newborn course” Shelley said The Utah Valley Hospital instructors also trained three regional instructors at the Fillmore Hospital “Their staff is going through the same training process” Shelley said All Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses as well as physicians will lake the course There are about 15 RNs and about 10 LPNs in Delta and at present two physicians “They’re finding in their research Vt) percent of babies who require resusitation in the delivery room are born in rural hospitals” Shelley said “so they feel it is very important that rurul hospitals are well trained” Shelley said the technique is a very approach “lr’s systematic a routine approach that has proven to bi very eflective for babies” she said The program applies to newborns and “neonatal babies” infants under liree months of age Shelley said the most critical time loi a newborn is the firsl three months The course is a national certification test which takes about eight hours to complete “They have a book they go through on their own time” Shelley but it’s said “It's quite a thick book” Students take eight written tests lots of about five skills reviews classroom time using mannequins and a final exam Trainees recertify every two years “Vve’re just delighted to be able to huve this extra training” Shelley said “We feel that tt’s reully increased our eflectiveness and efficiency in the delivery room” Miniature golf in Fillmore by Evelyn Mallei A new place to have some fun has now opened m Fillmore It is the Old located just Miniature Golf Capitol west of the old city office building on 1st South St have llena and Don Tomkmson wanted to build and own such a place for many years and now their dream has been realized Using ideas and sug gestions from the owners of the Irefalga Miniature Gold course m Orem helped them a great deal Don designed and engineered the whole project here and built it the same size as the Trefalga course He and have been working very hard on the project along with family and friends and they both stated that without that extra help it could never have been accomplished A few more details need to be finished up yet but will not be a deterrent to the using of the course now They actually opened for business Wednesday June 21 and will have their grand opening on July Several “special nights” are planned lor each week plus tournaments and awards Mondays and Wednesdays are family nights with a special price for each immediate family Tuesdays and Thursdays are reservation nights with a special rate for 20 or more people in a group They will be open Mondays through Saturdays and holidays from 10 am to 10 prn Don and llena invite you to come and practice up and the top 10 players in the 4 age categories will be posted each month on a billboard At the end ol the summer the top three players will recieve awards Don and llena plan on bringing in
