Show 4-- H Teen Council L'SPS Millard County Thun July 16 1987 - Page 7 meet DWR stocking Oak Creek Proposed elk transplant for the canyon mountains Officer Dave Smith Conservation reports that the Department of Wildlife Resources will be stocking Oak Creek on Thursday July 16 Approximately 2400 Rainbow trout each weighing about half a pound will be spread along the creek DWR has been stocking Oak Creek all summer Smith commented and “kids have been having lots of fun” This will be the last stocking of the season The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is proposing to transplant 50 to 100 elk to the approximately southern end of the Canyon Mountain Range located east of Oak City and north of Holden Utah The proposed transplant would take place no sooner than April 1988 and into the elk would be transplanted area There are Church currently an estimated 10 or 20 elk utilizing this area year around The purpose of this article is to contact individuals and groups who are likely to have an interest in this proposal and to elicit their written comments If you have questions please Wildlife contact Marion Cherry or Biologist at Please send your comments to Doug Reid District Ranger Fillmore Ranger District PO Box 265 Fillmore UT 84631 We would like to have all written comments by August 15 1987 “Way to go Team!” We wish to publicly thank our team who represented us in the First Annual Delta Charity Olympic Games July 4 1987 Further we wish to acknowledge and commend their valiant effort Even though they finished in second place we are proud of them and the manner in which they represented us A special note: we are extra proud to have had the only team competing with a female team member (and she definitely carried her own!) are Cindy Manning and Karen Scothem Cindy also teaches swimming lessons for the schools during the school year Things are going well at the pool this So far for the first three summer “Learn to Swim” swim lesson courses 488 children have taken swimming lessons Session four began Monday Session five begins Monday July 27 and the sixth and final swim lesson session for this summer begins Monday August 10 Registrations are now being taken for the last two swim lesson sessions by calling the pool at Dive for Money and Prizes is this Thursday July 16 at 2 pm at the West Millard Pool is Delta City Parks and Recreation Department is announcing the Slow of a 1987 organization Pitch Softball League All interested dividuals in Delta and the surrounding areas that are 16 years or older are vited to participate Team rosters and player consent forms may be picked up at the recreation Department in the Delta Regional Park Registration will be taken starting Wednesday July 15 through Tuesday July 28 from 9 am to 5 pm The entty fee will be $125 per team plus a $10 player fee for each player on roster There will be a meeting Wednesday July 29 at 5 pm at the Community Center in the of Millard County along with Kevin Kesler USU Extension Agent attended the Fourteenth Annual Utah Conservation Camp held at the Gooseberry Camp in Salina Canyon The camp objectives are to teach principles and practices of conservation and outdoor education to expand and work in conservation and improve outdoor education to make new friends with youth from other counties and share the experience of living and learning in a group to assist students in acquiring an appreciation for the natural world in which we must all live to expand interest and knowledge in shooting sports programs and develop an interest in shooting sports and to attract interested and prospective students to Utah State University’s Conservation Program The participants had the opportunity to participate in activities pertaining to wildlife forestry and range They kept record books while at camp Kesler stated that all of our participants received awards in shooting etc with Christie at Cedar City Utah the week of June The Delta Warriors in the high school age division took a Bronze medal which is third place in volleyball competition In the Open Division the Delta Spikers took Eagle Court of Honor conducted by the Order of the Arrow will be held to honor Johnny on Sunday July 19 at 8 pm in the Cultural LDS Hall of the Delta 1st Ward Church House Johnny has been active in Scouting for many years As a Cub Scout he earned all the arrow points for Wolf and Bear all activity badges as a Webelos Scout and the Arrow of Light the highest rank in Cub Scouting He also earned the Faith in God Award a special religious award for Cub Scouts During Johnny’s years as a Boy he has earned the On My Scout Honor a special religious award for Boy Scouts He has served as a Den Chief and in so doing earned the Den Chief service award Last year Johnny attended Timberline a leadership training camp and received his beads and upon completing his contract earned the Timberline belt buckle At the time of Johnny’s board of review for Eagle he had earned 36 merit badges (21 are required for Eagle) This puts him well on his way toward three eagle palms John is currently the patrol leader of the Eagle Patrol in Troop 140 Delta 1st Ward He is an active member of the order of the arrow and has advanced from ordeal to brotherhood member of the Tu Cubin Woonie Lodge For his Eagle project Johnny friends family organized his troop and adult advisors to paint sign posts along main street in Delta Utah This involved many hours of wire brushing priming and painting stop sanding signs speed control and informational signs Johnny has attended Delta Middle School where he has passed the seventh grade with a 38 grade point average and has been active in the marching and concert bands being named first chair low brass section is Howard Johnny’s Scoutmaster Scott his father He has three sisters and a Esther and Anna Becky younger brother Matt As a family and District troop
