Show rjrrtr Delta participates in state math test On Monday March 23 the Delta High and Junior High math teams participated in the State Math Test at SUSC Other high school students competed at other sites throughout the state Eighth and ninth grade students took a separate test Those who represented Delta High were Kathy Anderson Darin Clay Alycia Greathouse Terry Jensen Teresa Nickle Jeff Ogden and Marc Winsor Students in grades ten through twelve took the forty question high school test Mr Petersen said “It was a really tough test Some of the teachers got together and we couldn’t even do all of the problems” Most of the students and teachers volved felt that the test was too hard and unfair parThe tenth grade students ticipating included Brenda Boardman Brad Edwards Sherilyn Johnson School they are probably from one of Marilyn Greenwood’s classes Mrs Greenwood seems to have the ability to entice students to think and many lively discussions are held in her classes This excellent teacher came to Delta High School three years were Joe First and second place winners in the DHS Art Show Brad Pace Ruth Ponce Mike Suggs Saul Eggleston Brody Pace Kozina and Rochelle Skeem Art busy and they all enjoy Marilyn’s traditional Italian cooking that her grandmother taught her She also enjoys golf water skiing and swimming Recently she has acquired a new collecting Could this be an The Delta High Council For a Better School is happy to have Marilyn Greenwood as part of the staff at Delta High and hope she stays a long time USPS Millard County up Shows subject to change due to availability call For more information Officer Burton talks to students about drugs Fillmore 25 South Utah 100 West More Pioneer History As mentioned last time and in a separate article in this paper we have received some interesting history of pioneer settlement both in this area and the state The work of throughout Wanda S Petersen revealed several connections with people of this area and according to the conversations during the Autograph Party several other patrons discovered connections with her research in other parts of Utah Another of the donations of Don Walker is very interesting from the angle of pioneer travels One of the books recently sent by him to our to Zion by library is Homeward William Mulder (also autographed by the author) This very informative volume tells of the immigration of Scandinavian converts to the Rocky Mountains Lists and stories are given about specific immigrants as well as a factual overview of the amazing treks to Zion There were 30000 Mormon converts immigrating to Utah during the last half of the nineteenth century who were a welcome addition to the settlements of the west A portion of the book in article form won the Louis Knott Koontz award from the Pacific coast branch of the American Historical Association THe book was copyrighted in 1957 and is the most accurate reliable source of information on this amazing migration New Poetry Book Another gift from the Walkers is an autographed copy of poetry Snakes in the Strawberries by James Hearst This is a collection of poems spanning nearly 50 years The 156 pieces deal with the relationship of a farmer to his land and neighbors the personal problems of a man and his world and the great virtue of love They offer insights into a range of human experiences that with images of hills fields farmhouses and barns Hearst’s poems provide a provocative original view of the Iowa countryside but represent an expression of contemporary experience as well as a comment on rural life The following quote is taken from the back jacket flap: “You’li be fascinated amused and sometimes disturbed by these poems Written by a master of the language Hearst combines rhythm and sound in a way that will offer the common man as well as the sophisticate a rewarding experience Best of all James Hearst furnishes you the fleeting essences and nearly hidden details of rural life You’ll discover a multitude of such treasures in Snake in the Strawberries This is just one of the many teresting books of poetry in our Poetry Corner When you come to the library plan to spend a few minutes enjoying a few poems in comfort and ease either before or after selecting your books lo take home with you National Book Week This week has been set aside to Braw our attention to the great contributions of books in our lives It is hard to picst as ture a world without once was!
