After weeks of study and practice the third grade Fillmore Elementary for a special program presented parents friends and relatives on Tues13 a capacity Before 1986 day May audience in the Fillmore Elementary the room School students gave an excellent rendition of the spirit of “Polynesia” Under the direction of their teachers Oleve Kirk Penney Gloria Hunter Robison and Terry Perkins the third graders performed songs and dances from the South Pacific Islands The islands of Hawaii Tahiti New Zealand (the Maori) Samoa Fiji and Tonga were all represented during the program Many Polynesia dances were performed by the students The dances cluded “nga Waka” (Maori) “Titi Torea" “Hoe (Maori stick game) Great Race on for Thursday It’s that time of year when normal every day students can be seen doing sit ups in the hall jogging aroudn the commons area and for that extra burst of energy eating school lunch all this excited energy is in preparation for the annual great race on Thursday beginning at 12:30 This year’s seniors are working the most feverishly and hope to keep last title of the Great Race year’s Champions The grueling events that will take place are the hot dog eating contest followed by the paper airplane throw After those two Olympic style events contestants will shoot foul shots push ride a motorcyle a wheelbarrow skate snake race toss skateboard eggs toss water balloons race like old ladies relay around the track sprint leap frog and the ever popular canoe in the canal The public is excluded from participating in such an athletic afternoon but encouraged to added this year in CAD or drafting Students also competed for ribbons for annual displays in woodworking electronics welding drafting metals graphic arts and crafts SUSC has hosted IE Day for oxer 40 years as an opportunity for students to display their skills to provide for a professional exchange between instrucindustrial tors from the different education programs Chidester said Sweepstakes
