bonnets and a bunny hop The Pahvant Valley Senior Citizens’ Easter Hat Parade and Dance was certainly an event that won't be forgotten in the minds of those who attended whether they took part or were just observers Some of the hats were beautiful chapeaus and some were hilariously funny in First prize the Prettiest Hat category went to Lenna Bushnell of Her's was a spectacular Meadow creation made of huge feather flowers satin bows and ribbons with many two to three foot long peacock feathers protruding from the top A veil of green nylon net tied under the chin and yellow net cascading down the back Helen Bennett of Holden was 2nd prize winner and Gladys Jackson of Delta won 3rd prize First prize winner for the Funniest Hat category was Mary Gene Edwards of Fillmore Mary Gene's bonnet was made of lace that draped down and around her face plus flowers and bows A bird cage with an Easter Bunny inside the cage along with other Easter trappings was on top of the hat Second prize for Funniest Hat went to Maxine of Meadow and 3rd Augsberger prize to Lula George of Kanosh both Helen and Lula Incidentally won prizes in last year's parade too Honorable Mention went to Karl Murray of Delta Needless to say all of the hats Nine men were were wonderful among the 39 participants and they are to be especially congratulated for their "bravery” and ingenuity Milo Mortenson and Karl Murray of Delta paraded as a pair of shy ladies and had a lot of people uncertain as to whether they were men or women The three distinguished judges Fillmore City were Gw'en Hunter Librarian Pauline Elmer Fillmore Postmistress and County CommisA sioner Ab Johnson of Fillmore for the Senior Citizens spokesman group said "We cannot praise or thank them (the judges) enough for their fine job in determining the six winners They were put under tremendous to quickly pressure as the hats make judgements marched by There was no time for exact deliberations They did an admirable job and we are grateful to them” After Parade six Hat the of the Tanya members Kirwan School of Dance did a ballet number conbefitting the Easter season sumed as caterpillars that turned into The delightful dance was butterflies executed by Katrina very ably Juliet Kirwan Amber Bartholomew Peterson Chris McVey Angela Kirwan and Tiffany Iverson Later they did the Bunny Hop wearing it as bunny ears and performing The expertly as their first number Seniors would like to acknowledge ladies their gratitude to these young for their efforts to entertain them and to Tanya who arranged these dances at their request Another surprise for the Seniors came when eight “chickens” walked out and did a "chicken dance" then someone from the each grabbed audience to dance the little routine were with them The “chickens” and Bennett Helen and Emmett Helen and Jay Stevens of Holden Leoma Barkdull and Albert Paxton and Verna and Max Nichols of Their comical costumes Fillmore were made to resemble chickens plus the dance was certainly mirth provoking Emcee Dean Mallet introduced a special guest of the red in a and white checked gingham gown Tootsie danced around the floor to several making shy overtures gentlemen in the audience Tootsie was played by Joe Barkdull who is Joe much gifted in showmanship and has Meadow hails from portrayed several other characters in his past performances Tootsie kept the audience in a steady laughter "her” little act Matt throughout Paxton and Albert Townsley Winfred Jensen were the gentlemen that totally rejected her The rest of the evening was spent in dancing to the music of the Meadow Misfits Band The floor was crowded with happy laughing dancers They had a highlight later in the evening when the emcee organized a Pie Walk Six pies were given out to the couples who landed on the numbers that were called 176 The crowd of approximately people from Delta and surrounding the area towns and Fillmore and vicinity filled the Center to capacity When the band played the traditional "Good Night Ladies” there calls were for "more” but the show had to come sad to say to an end Many comments came to the emcee that it was an evening unequaled to any in many years The Seniors would like to publicly thank Emcee Dean Mallet who very ably kept the whole evening going smoothly without a problem and to the Meadow Misfits Band for their lively music They were wishing their Center was larger that evening so that larger crowds could join them for many more such memorable events n to aid Cystic Fibrosis scheduled for Fillmore Bike-A-Tho- Vicki Allen Vickie
