The purpose in irrigating is to replace moisture that a crop has used from the soil so that rapid productive growth may continue Water must be applied when needed and in sufficient amount to fill the soil reservoir to field capacity and at the same time not use more water than is required Even with careful control and the best irrigation system some water will be lost during an irrigation This happens by deep penetration runoff and seepage evaporation from delivery ditches Since not all crops have the same moisture requirements it is safe to say that one of the management keys to unlocking greater crop yields is irrigating to meet the needs of each Some crops require crop large amounts of water early in the season while others require little in the spring but large amounts later in the year a Irrigated agriculture requires One of high level of management the primary items to consider is how dry the crop rooting zone should be allowed to get before irrigation water is needed Under no circumstances should the crop be allowed to deplete all the available water stored in the root zone This would be comparable to letting the full tank in your car become empty The car then stops is available When water the depleted even temporarily the crop will either die or suffer a serious yield reduction The farmer is a businessman just as much as the merchant banker or anyone else engaged in business For greater returns the efficiency of irrigation must be kept high If the is 40 of application efficiency percent then we must assume 60 percent of the cost of water is being wasted Suppose a field needs 35 inches of water to fill the root zone when it is time to irrigate We know the soil can’t hold any more than this amount but to replace the 35 inches needed in the root zone you might find that you need to put on a gross Your depth of 5 inches of water efficiency of application would then be 355 x 100 or 70 percent Losses would be 15 inches or 30 percent The method used by Soil Conservation Service personnel during the past three field seasons to determine has available moisture remaining been the neutron probe This is a highly effiicent method of measuring water molecules with the use of high the neutron speed neutrons-th- d Reduced Interest Rates on Installment Loans For any worthwhile purpose oil' litiHtil © ' T?
