Show NEW YEARS, our conferences are not representative of the actual labor done. There are no more zealous, united and courageous officers to be found than in this Primary army embattled against ignorance and wrong. We are thankful for such brave women, for this is purely a womans work, encouraged and helped on by the presiding authorities of Church, Stake and Ward. We hope to succeed. How many eyes will brighten as they scan the picture of President Louie B. Felt, thirteen years on duty; yet many of the children have not seen her. Those who have will never forget her; she always charms them, for her power over children is marvelous. The Primary, like the Kindergarten work (they are twin sisters) requires special natural qualifications; with these Mrs. Felt is most liberally endowed. By her peculiar magnetic influence she holds the children spellbound, and her gentle yet dignified bearing commands instant respect, almost reverence. Thousands still await her ministry among them, though she has traveled far and near in the line of duty. Long may she live to love and labor for the children of Zion! L. T. F. 1893. Nearly all the organizations are now at work, performing their allotted labor. One of the duties of the local associations is to collect information which will enable the Territorial Board of Lady Managers to formulate a chart which will give full information as to the industrial women in Utah. Similar statistics have been solicited, by the Board of Lady Managers of the Worlds Columbian Commission, from each of the other states and territories. The result will show clearly and compendiously the industrial position of women in the United States. This will not only be useful for the purposes of the great Exposition, but for future relerence. The chart will also enable those who are interested in this important subject to compare the industrial status of Women aiul the Fair. OME people confound the National Board of Lady Managers of the Columbian Commission with the Territorial Board ol Lady Managers. The former was created by an act of Congress, and is composed of two women from each state and territory, one from the District of Columbia, eight at large and The nine from the city of Chicago. members of this board who represent Utah are Mrs. Margaret B. Richards, Mrs. Electa Bullock, Mrs. Luna Y. Thatcher, Mrs. Mary C. Lyman, members, and Miss May Preston, secretary. The first work of the Territorial Board, after its creation, was to appoint one lady in each county to organize and look after the interests of the Worlds Fair work in her county. Organizations were effected in the various cities and towns of the Territory, which are under the direction of their respective county boards. The territorial management, in order to make the organization complete, also appointed territorial committees to supervise the work in its various departments, which include the industrial arts, fine arts, liberal arts, ethnol-ogarchaeology, etc. y, Emily S.Richards, President Territorial Managers Worlds Fair. women in the several states and territories. The proposed chart will show as follows: The number of women who are the number employed in factories, stores, shops and offices, the number owning and controlling farms, the number engaged in mining, the number engaged in horticulture and floriculture, the number engaged in the professions, the number engaged in domestic service, the number of authors and the number of teachers. The work of preparation for the adornment of the Utah headquarters, which is to be fitted up by the Territorial Board of Lady Managers, is fairly well advanced. Furnishings of great beauty have already been contributed and others are promised. Among them are handsome portieres of elaborate design wage-earner- 7 and elegant silk upholstered furniture. However, it is hardly possible at this stage of our work to report progress without being invidious, because some of the counties have already made acceptable contributions, others have them while still in course of preparation, others have given assurance that they will soon begin operations in that direction. It is perhaps needless to state that time is getting short and delays will be fatal to the credit of Utah. The opportunity of making a commendable exhibit and favorable impression is incomparably great and ought to be fully improved. In the Utah building no article can be exhibited for competitive purposes, but merely for the purpose of showing what the women of .Utah can produce. It is to be hoped that they will do themselves credit by making an exhibit worthy of their skill. Present appearances promise well for a fine display. Those ladies of our Territory who have the laudable desire to compete for prizes will be under the necessity of placing their artistic productions in either the Womens building or the building for Fine Arts, which are open to all who wish to compete for premiums with women of other parts of the country. It is gratifying to know that Utah will have contestants for merit in many departments, and I have no doubt that her ladies will make a showing of which the Terri, tory may be justly proud. Board or Lady No decision has yet been reached with regard to what contribution the Utah women will make to the attractiveness of the Exposition in the lines of music and the drama, although it is certain that something will be done in these directions. This must necessarily be the case, as the people of our Territory have the credit of constituting one of the most talented musical communities in the United States. Utah has been invited to participate in the Worlds Congress of Women, which will be one of the leading features of the Fair. This invitation has been accepted, and some of the Utah ladies who will take an active part in the discussions of that great occasion have alThe questions ready been selected. considered at this remarkable gathering will be such as specially relate to the welfare of women.
