Show trr at TrlfonDiiG&DGM) Thursday, October 14, 1976 North Ogden party line wen by Muriel Shupe North NORTH OGDEN Ogdenites are fast becoming world travelers, with various citizens traveling to places on business or for No mediocracy in movies far-awa- y by Melinda Sowerby It seems these days that movies and television shows are either really good or rotten. There are very few shows of mediocracy left on the air. The thing that troubles me, is that the rotten shows seem to get as much or more acclaim these days as the good ones. Just the other night, I sat down to watch a movie on television which was originally shown at the theatres and according to the things I had heard when it was first released, I expected a first class story. Am I ever glad I didnt pay my good money to see it at the theatre because I would have felt obliged to sit through the whole thing. As it turned out, I watched 10 minutes of it, then switched off the set in favor of some records. Now Im sure there were many who thought the show was good and would have gladly paid money to see it. However I found the whole thing disgusting. However, a movie I recently saw at the theatre was so good that I actually went back a second time to see it. I must admit I prefer the kind of entertainment involved in this show, but how is one to know unless they spend their time and money to find out if it is good or not? Certainly taking the word of a critic is not the answer and even taking the word of friends and relatives doesnt work as everyone has different tastes. I guess everyone will have to go on taking their chances. The thing is, I want to always see good shows, not rotten ones. Back in the days that they made mediocre shows, at least you had the comfort of saying Oh well, it wasnt that bad. Now you dont even have that comfort. Well, I guess Ill keep taking my chances on the movies, just like everybody else and hope I wind up seeing more good than bad. Dear Editor: Ive had calls and inquiries about the public hearing concerning the development of our mountainside in North Ogden. Well, they didnt win and we didnt lose. A petition of almost 400 people was submitted to the North Ogden City Council protesting the building of apartments and condominiums in the area of 3300 North. Many who signed the petition were against development of any kind due to the geological hazards and the lowering of the quality of life we now enjoy in this community. People came to the meeting to listen and ask questions. I protested the ordinance about larger lot sizes because it pertains mainly to the area above 3300 North. There are about six subdivisions being built at the present time in North Ogden and I dont see people waiting in line to buy houses simply because the housing market has gotten off the price range for the average person. pleasure.
