After a relaxing spring 1 break, I thought I was completely ready to take on the choreography workshop. I'd looked at the practice video the organizers sent, halfheartedly swished my arms in a couple attempts to try the dance, and then figured I could simply learn it on the spot and gave en I. 4 1 up. MARCH 29 The evening started enjoyably. I was wearing "comfortable" heels aka the most bearable level of discomfort I've experienced when wearing heels and Dean of Students. Del Beatty came in to our practice to organize us and teach us how to do our stage formations. If you have,no idea what formations are it's OK, I had no clue either. However, it is fairly straightforward; formations are literally how we are lined up on stage and how we will be conducting ourselves. According to Dating Site Reviews, 75 percent of millennials have used or are currently using online dating apps to find a serious relationship. Only 22 percent admit to using online apps as their main form going out on dates. Kelby Merrill, a senior biology major from St. George, met his current boyfriend on Grindr and has been with him for a little over a year. He said is the best date he has been on since using the dating app. "I think online dating deI pends on the person, but think you can meet a lot of people through dating apps, but at the same time, you can get hurt," Merrill said. "But again, it does depend on the person." It is easier to meet people on phone apps than in perorder son, Merrill said. In online dating sucto make cessful, he said it is really communicate important to the person you're a lot with interested in. Candy Roland, a senior communication major from West Wendover, Nevada, said, "I've only dated through the apps Tinder and Bumble. It was fun and I met some people; you have to definitely be cautious and read the bio." If the person didn't fill out the bio and some personal information about themselves, she said she would continue looking for someone who had taken the time to fill out their information. If they could not take the time to fill out.the bio, then they were looking more for a hook up instead of a relationship, Roland said. She did not find a significant other, but she made some friends who she has continued to keep in contact with. "I think with dating in general, you should go on multiple dates and not settle for a relationship right off the bat," Roland said. "Multiple dates can be kind of hard to do, and it really doesn't trend with our generation anymore, but there are benefits doing this and it helps to find what you want in a person." Director of Radio Shawn De see DATING page 8 In reality, coordinating movements and syncing the timing of a group of women in high heels is no small task. We spent about an hour and a half tottering around the room, but by the time Beatty put music to our steps, I felt like we had accomplished a huge task. Then we attempted to add the choreographed dance and it all fell apart. Since I am still short in heels, I am in the front of one our formations, which made it painfully obvious I hadn't practiced and plenty of the others had. Not to say it was smooth sailing all around me and I was the shipwreck; people were twirling the wrong direction and most of us had completely lost our timing. At this point the pageant director Madison Bronstrom, an adviser for general education as well, took over and said we weren't leaving until we learned the chore- ilitleizer wo excellez.lce, 1e4 tlewisdsn Dixie State University trailblazers from different areas of campus demonstrate the importance of leadership as a woman. Women's History Month, which ends Friday, is that time of the year where people celebrate the vital role of women in American history. Student body President Sarah Ramaker, a senior dance major from Midland, Michigan, said when she hears Women's History Month, a woman who isn't afraid to be who she is and knows what she needs to do for those around her comes to her mind. Ramaker said she was inspired to campaign for the position of student body president because it was an opportunity to not only work hard but be able to say she left DSU knowing she gave it her all. "I fell to the floor, cried tears of joy, looked up and said 'wait I really won?" Ramaker said. "Everyone in the class circled around me and celebrated with me, and it is one of the most vivid memories of my life." Throughout this school year, Ramaker has worked closely with administration late s,en ,, ..., k , 11: , and the other student government members to bring change to DSU, she said. Ramaker said, "Together we have made movement in getting open educational resources available to students, started a Hope Squad to prevent suicide, participated in contributing more service hours to the community than ever before, among many other things." Ramaker said her main focus was mental health, which led her to create the Hope Squad to combat suicide on campus. Hannah Milne, a sophomore communication major from Salt Lake City, also is president of a new club she started at DSU just last year. While working with Planned Parenthood, Milne said an ambassador encouraged her to get the Students for Choice Club started on campus because DSU was the only university in Utah that didn't have a sex education club available for students. "Just seeing in my human sexuality class the amount of people that had misinformation concerning sex was super alarming," Milne said. "Because of this, I thought we needed a club that was more informative and talked about comprehensive sex education." Aside from accurately in obviouslym- self. But even while we were wishing for dinner, and complaining about our feet, there was still plenty of smiles and little jokes about getting our step count in. The feeling of camaraderie more than anything well, and the possible shame of messing up on stage got me committed to practicing the dance so I can nail it next practice. So even though my feet have blisters, I will be practicing nightly. I only get one more official group practice, one dress rehearsal and then it's showlime. ography. And something great happened. No, we didn't have a magical musical moment where we could suddenly all dance perfectly in time, but something I felt makes this pageant so unique. "We are still fighting every single year for the rights to our own bodies, like right now especially it is a political war zone concerning bodily autonomy," Milne said.
