The Lion Dance is a traditional dance in which two performers mimic a lion together under a large red and yellow costume. A lot of people dont fully understand Chinese culture, Taylor said. This event will be a really enjoyable way for the locals to make friends with some of the Chinese students here and appreciate their culture. Although the Chinese New Year celebration on campus is going to be done with all good intentions, it is still quite unlike the festivals one may find in Fish China, said Hiu-Y- u a Tang, senior psychology major from Hong Kong. The DSU Chinese New Year celebration is really different than what Im used to in Hong Kong, Tang said. We all get five days off work and school. We all get lucky money in red envelopes and have lots of fireworks. But mostly we just spend time with family, like Thanksgiving. The Chinese New Year celebration is a good way for international students at DSU to feel more at home, Tang said. Its really hard for people that come from China to adjust to life in the states, Tang said. Fankhauser said his job on student government is hands-o- n and is helping to prepare him for his future. His job is unpredictable, so he has learned to think on his feet. He is not micro-manage- d, which has taught him con- nects with people that I couldnt or other people couldnt, so hes a great ambassador for student stantly, Fankhauser said. He will be living at the office for years to come if his occupational goals come to fruition. Fankhauser has thought a lot about his future, and he plans on working public relations for either a politician or a European tech startup. He likes the idea of working for a politician, but he is enthralled by the idea of being a part of a company that discovers the next big thing. matter how much work he has to do, he always takes time to make everybody feel good about themselves. Layton says Fankhauser is active in the LGBT community at Dixie. He is willing to put time into what he believes in, and he recently interviewed to e. ta Tsa be a representative for the LGBT community in state legislature. He isnt shy about who is he or what he believes in, so I really respect him for that, Layton said. Fankhauser is a mul- titalented individual, and he thrives not only in business but also in creative endeavors. He didnt follow his two older sisters or his older brother into their chosen activities. Nevertheless, he has been excelling m ballroom dancing since middle school. He wasa member of the ballroom dance team at his high school and at DSU. Aftj spending the last eight years dancing, Frankhau er finds it to be relaxing Ive always loved bal room dancing, Fankhai er said.
