Junior 157 Lewis Wilde, junior 149 Aaron Camis, freshman 141 Cesar Martinez and sophomore 175 Robby Briggs placed seventh. The team took sixth place out of 15 schools for the weekend. Weve been quiet all season and now, boom, here we are, assistant coach Wayne Briggs said. In the last round of the tournament the DSC wrestlers were in a position where four of the men had the opportunity to qualify for nationals. Winning meant placing third at the NCWA Regional Championships and qualifying for the NCWA National tournament being held in Daytona, Fla. Losing meant finishing at a very respectable fourth place but having the 2012 season be over. Athletic Director Jason Boothe received word of the betting through a tip and then confirmed reports before confronting the team. We found out that they were committing NCAA violations, so we researched it and have taken the proper actions to rectify it, Boothe said. Boothe said this in- fraction is considered a secondary violation. It is not a major issue but still an important one, Boothe said. As such the team will need to sit out of a competition this season. Boothe also said the money games are very popular in golf, but as part of a collegiate team, the players arent allowed to bet in any form.
