Show Wednesday, august Riw 25, 2010 Lifestvlos Fat-Gi- rl , public journey of blood, sweat and tears. A journey I hope I will not have to sojourn alone. In fact I would love it if you will join me. Yes, you! This journey begins now. Below I have out- lined a beginner's running plan that I am committed to following in order to slim down, get back in shape, and fit into the wedding dress of my dreams. Hal Higdon, running coach and Runners World columnist said in the June 2010 edition of Prevention Magazine that is one five-minu- te five-minu- te five-minu- five-minu- one-eigh- ning then as I hope to become in the near future. Then maybe I wouldnt be in the mess I am now. I digress, back to the back- ground. After returning from a year and a half vacation for my church I decided I wanted to run the St. George Marathon. Yes, thats right, a marathon, 26.2 miles of foot on pavement action. I started out slowly building up my endurance to a 5k then a 10k and finally the grande tamale, the marathon. As a matter of fact I followed the exact running training schedule listed below. While training I entered a 5k with a friend of mine and came in third in my age category. I received a trophy and everything. I like to believe there were at least four people involved in the run within my age category. I wasnt very smart about running back then. Im not an expert on the subject now, but I am more educated about the art of running now than I was then. In fact, I ended up running from Central to Vernon Worthen in brand new, only worn for two weeks, SKECHERS tennis shoes. Oh yes, I was a smart one. Luckily I survived even though my toenails didnt. After that I continued running mixed with other types of cardio and weight training until I reached the skinniest I have ever been since probably the second of the best forms of exercise a person can do. There are many reasons for this. Running can be done anywhere, anytime, with a buddy or alone, inside or outside, and its free. Allow me to give you a little background material about myself for this journey we are starting. I say we because you are going to do this with me. Arent you? hated running in elementary, middle and high school. TGFC (thank goodness for college), the only educational venue you arent forced to take a class in which you have to participate in the timed mile. Every time we did the timed mile in grade school I wanted to jump in front of a moving bus to get out of the torture of run-daMy friends and I would always say, Why run for fun? In fact, there is only one time in my career of run-dathat I actually made the time required for the mile. I felt so accomplished like there was nothing I couldnt do. If only that feeling would have stuck. If only I had become addicted to run I y. ys 4 7- was living in Newport Beach, Calif., working at Red Lobster, trying to get an acting gig and loving the coast line. The scale said 163, which may cause some of you to choke on your rice grade. I cracker. But 163 for Kate is a size 8 and that is pretty skinny for me. Obviously, since its the smallest Ive ever been. Unfortunately I took some pretty extreme measures to get that size and it was very short lived. The rest of the story isnt pretty, clearly, since here I am bearing everything to all yall and weighing in much heavier than 163, at a whopping 247. Suffice it to say there have been good times, and there have been bad times, and then there were times when all I wanted was Ben & Jerry So here we are. At the launching off point of what may turn into a running epidemic for DSC. I hope it will. I would love nothing more than to see hundreds, nay millions, o students take to the streets to be a part of my journey. Imagine how it would be with our college community woven together in one single purpose. After that the skies would be the limits. I know it isnt going to be easy. In fact, most things worth a darn in life arent easy. It is my hope you want to join me as I retrain transform, cleanse, and grow to love my body and Run, Fat Girl, Run. .U1D1 iri warm up walk.
