If my family and I were ever in a situation where we were the victims of a crime, we would all be pushing for the harshest sentence possible. Our motivation would be strictly based on emotion, not on retribution or rehabilitation of the criminal. I think this is where the problem lies. make an unemotional decision on what the punishment for the crime should be. The most common crime was stealing. Today, crimes are not typically straightforward enough to employ the method. However, if they were, Im not sure this is the most effective way to sentence criminals. Sentences are adjusted to fit the crime. One size does not fit all. That is why the justice system allows for a variety of sentences. This includes forms of punishment. It has become common for sen tences to include service or of paying hefty fines as opposed to jail time. . Typically crimes are too complex to have the sentence be the same thing done right back to the Criminal. Also, this form of punishment does not allowffor any type of rehabilitation. I hope none of us isever in a situation of beings the victim of a crime. Remember that everyday family life holds traditions, too, and these often are the ones people rarely think about. Well, if you would be so inclined to observe my actions over the next two months you might actually see a perfectly normal person go insane.' Here is how it goes: Midterm is here, so half the semester is gone. That means that I get to relax for a couple of weeks until I have to kick it into high gear for finals, right? If you answered yes to this question you have failed at my little quiz and should be shunned. If you answered no, you should be shunned anyway because you dont believe in my skills. The answer is C none of the above because I am ready for all that this month can bring. I had the opportunity to look at a friends planner on Sunday morning. As we dis- cussed the upcoming weeks, I realized that I dont have time for my normal midsemester slacking. I have nine weeks of school (eight if dont count spring break) you until I walk for graduation, and I have a lot to do in that time. I recently decided that I am going to apply to graduate school, and cross my fingers that they let me in next fall. Because of my sudden change of plans I have found in a pickle. I need myself scores from my Graduate Record Examination, a test that I have not yet taken. This causes a pickle because I have to take it as soon as possible. The problem with tak ing the GRE as soon as possible is the fact that I have never seen what the test looks like, let alone be prepared to take it. So in this wonderful month of March, a month that was usually devoted to golf and relaxation, is now devoted to studying for a test that cost me more than $ 100 to take. There goes my fun and relaxing spring break, as well as all the hours I was going to spend hitting a little white ball around a giant green field. This wonderful month of March also includes wrapping up all the loose ends of some of my projects. I have to finish conducting a research project for my senior capstone. I also have to finish my internship at the public relations office on campus. Now I dont want to sound I pass all my classes. No sweat, right? No matter how you answer that question you will be shunned, so my advice is pop some popcorn and get ready to witness a man conquer his life. If by chance I fail, at least you will have a snack and entertainment. What else could you ask for? (A new car maybe, but thats just me.)
