Show ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT students SGMT to start Singing soon DSC check out Tube WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6 - DIXIE SUN smile. In order to keep the genuine feel of the landmark event of switching to talkies, Bishop asked for the help of Dixie State College students and staff. These film students were involved with acquiring and editing silent movie clips to be used in the musical. Brendon Gunn, a senior communication major from St. George, said the script calls for some film clips to make it complete. The script calls for multiple film spots to be used throughout the play, and we have been asked to recreate the film segments for it, Gunn said. There are segments in the play where the actors are reviewing their own work. Production Director Ben Braten and Ben Banks, a sophomore communication major from St. George, were recruited by Gunn for the production based on their Taz Murie, left, plays Kathy with Roger Dunbar, right, as Don Lockwood, who embrace in SGMTs production of Singing in the Rain. What is Slumdog" Millionaire? The answer is: The best movie of the year! I have seen a lot of movies that have been presented on the big screen during the 2008 calendar year. I can honestly say this is the most gripping and compelling of them all. The story focuses around Jamal Malik, played by Dev Patel, who makes his film acting debut as a Tea Fetched working in a call center in India who has found himself ready for the last question in Indias version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? This seems like it would be a dream come true for most people around the world, but for Malik it is just all part of the road that has brought him to this point. Once Malik has made it to the final question (which will give him 20 million rupees and wealth beyond his wildest dreams about $400,000 U.S.) he is an'ested on suspicion of fraud. Malik is tortured and questioned for hours by authorities as to how he has been so successful during his stint on the show. His ability to answer the difficult questions is explained to the audiences in ways that will leave audiences visiting seemingly every emotion on the spectrum from humor to fear to love. Audiences will be engaged with the storylines that are created to explain Maliks knowledgeof the various subjects he is quizzed on. Maliks love interest in the film is Latika, played by the beautifirl Freida Pinto, who is also making her acting debut. During the film Malik and Latika take different paths through life as Malik will do anything to ensure that he will one day be with the woman he loves. Throughout the film the plot is continuously complicated by Maliks brother Salim, who must watch out for and hurt his younger brother. Director Danny Boyle (Millions and Trainspotting) is behind the lens for this and lends his talents to a movie that is based on Vikas Swarups novel, Q & A. Scenes from the film are based on three different time periods, so three different actors are used to depict children, teenagers and adults for each character. For each age group the acting is impressive with memorable performances by everyone in the picture. The film offers audiences the opportunity to put on the shoes of the actors in the film as they experience trying and unforgettable moments that will stay with them long after the credits end. There are thousands of things to love about this film from the storylines of each subject to the shooting that depicts the slums of India. There are several different social commentaries that are notable to the viewer that take subtle jabs at the differences in world cultures. The film is aided by an incredible soundtrack. As I write this review I am attempting to find flaws in the film but cannot find anything that would make me not recommend it.
