Show WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4 THE SUN " Opinion Rebel Vents life for Preparation 28, 2001 j r ut nr.fcat Name: Candace Karla Cottam Assistant Editor-in-Chi- 1 dont know about anyone else but that break was way too short. I'm totally not ready to face finals! They seem to come so fast and all at once. I hate how they are all at once. Its so difficult to concentrate and remember all the things weve been studying for the whole semester; especially when we finals on completely must take different subjects. I dont know, maybe its good preparation for life. ( I hate how everything hard is preparation for life.,,) All I know is that I dont approve. Just wait, if youre anything like me youll have a total brain freeze during one test and later while taking a different test the, now futile, answers will just pop in your head. Then, the answers you want wont come. ..the cycle goes on and on. I liked, in the last issue, one of the vents about how there should be some sort of guide describing teachers and their classes in detail. I would like to sign up for a class knowing exactly what is expected of me and what I should be expecting from the class. For instance, how the final would be; or better yet, if finals were spaced out more, when the final was (even though the finals sched back-to-ba- ule is in the front of the schedule booklet.) Perhaps, at rebelinfo.com, there could be a separate section like the Vent,, but for students to comment on classes theyve had. This would not only help clueless students who are registering for classes in the dark,,, but provide help to professors, as well; they could get feedback on how effective their courses have been and suggestions on improvement. It could enhance the comments they receive when students fill out the teacher evaluations. This feedback would be voluntary, though, so bette- r- from students with sincere opinions. Even if the aforementioned suggestions are never used, cared-aboor acted upon, for the record, I think they should be. Anyone else who shares my opinion is welcome to do something about it. Voice your opinion or, if you choose, you can learn more about your professors by nominating them to be featured in this lovely paper. It may not help you during finals but if your professor likes being in the spotlight for a week, you might earn some brownie points. Think about it. Good luck on finals everyone! And on behalf of all the students, thank you to the DSC administration for your efforts this semester. Attention All Sophomores !!! Have you made arrangements to graduate with the counseling center yet??? If not remember to Call 0 to make an appointment with the advisement and counseling center BEFORE December 31st !!! 652-769- Opinion: Paving for Student Handbook I recently tried to go pick up my schedule book in the bookstore. I don't know if anyone else has gone and they are charging $2.00 for them now. They tell you schedules will be out on friday, but neglect to tell you that they cost money now. Also, when you go to to get the schedules they have someone guarding them like we are all going to steal them or something, give me a break. Hello! Dixie hasn't charged for the schedules in the past two years. I think that it is a bunch bull that they are charging. Who is making money off of this? I have friends and family that go to other college and universities in Utah and there schedules are all under $1.00, if they have to pay at all. You can buy a Sunday newspaper for a $ .00 and get 5 times the paper. Someone is making money. You can't tell me the schedules cost $2.00 a piece to make. Yeah right, maybe on another planet. There is something wrong with chargstudents for our schedules. Here go to ing Dixie but pay to look at a schedule. They are on the internet but a lot of students don't have time to sit in front of the computer deciding classes. I am just wondering why schedules weren't figured in as part of the student fees? I pay student fees. I don't attend athletics, or any other events all I ask for is that my schedule gets paid for with the money I fork up in the student fees. Yeah, I know its just $2.00, but to a lot of people that money could be used for something else. Isn't there a budget every semester or year. Why couldn't two dollars out of the 145.80 of student fees go to something that every student would benefit from. I just think that someone doing the budget didn't think of the what students need, schedules. I broke down and bought one, but if I could veto about charging students again I would. This to me seems like double dipping. Oh, pay student fees, but you have to pay for this and this and this too. Give me a break, quit taking from the students. Name: Andrew Warbv Opinion: School Spirit Why is there no spirit anymore at DSC? I don't know the whole answer. What I do know is that there are a few factors. One of them is greed; that's right, I said you students are all greedy. Two, you are all selfish. Third, you are hypocrites. I see honest faces and crooked hearts at the campus at DSC. Now, I am just like you. I fit those three factors and I apologize. A good friend of mine (he's the cape guy at the games) boldly told me to get my priorities straight. Next semester I am scheduling my classes, clubs, and work so I can show as much school spirit as I can. Thank you cape man, you have my vote for class president Name: BenJoe Markland Opinion: Where is the spirit guys, why aren't people coming out and showing their spirit? School spirit is what this campus needs. Otherwise we will all be bored and just go to school all day! 1 Name: Stanton Roseman Opinion: The Library Alarm I want to complain about the alarm that goes off in the library right before closing every night. I don't care if it gets students out of the library faster or not. I hate the stupid noise that the library makes at quarter to closing. The library says they are open until 10:00, not 9:45. They should treat the students in the library like students wanting to learn and study. Not like cattle that need a noise to be herded out of the building. Sometimes, I stay in the building clear until closing time just to prove my point that it doesn't make them go any faster. Does anyone else feel this way?
