All American Maurice Baker also had a solid game with 18 points. Pre-sea-s- Banks added 16, and freshmen Jason Johnson and Cliff Scholer each added ten points. The Rebels pressure defense was the key in the win, as well as their rebounding edge. Scholer scored most of his points on offensive rebounds. He had 12 rebounds in the GAME INFORMATION DUNK OF THE WEEK: full-cou- rt Marcus Banks showed some senous hops in taking an alley-oopass from Mau Baker. TOTALS: Soccer, from front Dixie clearly dominated the game. The Rebels moved the ball around well and got several good chances on goal in the first half, but could not convert. Mesa got on the board first with a score, but Hadley, who has been one of the Rebels top players all season long, answered right back with a goal of her own. Neither team would score for the remainder of the half or the first overtime period, setting the stage for Faylors heroics. Rebel head coach Heather Dahl said the Friday night game was the real championship in the district, because the Thunderbirds gave Dixie much more trouble than Cisco did. On Saturday, the Rebels flew past the Wranglers. Shay Hansen got the Rebels on the board in the eighth minute. Hansen dribbled the ball down the left flank for about 30 yards, then just out of the box, she put a soft touch with her left foot that just beat the Wrangler keeper and snuck just inside the goalpost. The Rebels led and the game was never close from there. The Rebels would score three more e goals in a span later in the half. Hansen scored in the 30th and 32nd minutes to complete her first-hahat trick. And in 37th minute, Julie Offret dribbled past the Wrangler defense and their keeper to put the Rebels up at half-timDixie would add two more in the second half. Faylor scored the Rebels fifth goal of the night, and freshman Lindsay Mulliner added the final score by nutmegging the Cisco goalkeeper. The goal, although it was mainly a goalkeeping error, was indicative of the kind of night it was with the Rebels getting all the breaks and capitalizing on Cisco errors. The Rebels were very excited with winning the district title. This was bigger than any state seven-minut- lf 4-- 0 111. championship, said Dahl. For her part, Dahl has done a great job of quickly elevating the Rebel program as a national powerhouse. In just her second year as head coach, she has helped make the Rebels legitimate national championship contenders. This is their second district championship, and their second straight trip to the national tournament. The Rebels women soccer program is only in its third year of existence. The national tournament will be held Nov. Last year, Dixie entered the tournament unknown. They went on a Cinderella run that ended with a loss in the national semifinals to the eventual national champions, Champlain, Vt. The Rebels are expecting to improve on last years performance. We had a really good team last year, but this years team is even better, said sophomore Shay Hansen, who was selection at last an 18-2- 1. years national tournament. Dixie has already proven this season that they belong among the nations elite. They have beaten national powers Mesa, Pima and Champlain. The other loss came against Lewis & Clark, Illinois, on the road. Dixie will probably have a chance to get revenge against Lewis & Clark, as the two teams are considered to be the tournament favorites. The Rebels feel confident about their chances this time, with six players back from last years squad. Were going to win. I can feel it. I know it. We deserve it. We have worked our butts off, said Hansen. The Utah Law Enforcement Academy is the basic training program for certification of the law enforcement officer.
