Tuesday, May 12 Frybread Making Contest and Demonstration noon- - By Wednesday, May 13 Editor A&E month ago, roommate was curious to calculate her own I.Q., a curiosity which seems to be common among many Dixie College students. ; A few phone calls revealed that testing with a professional would cost an estimated $ 100. Further research cemented the cost at $250 to be taken with an educational psychiatrist. Wandering through the Bookstore, searching for a book to read, stumbled upon an intriguing and economically sound alternative to this curiosity. Self Scoring I.Q.Tests provides approximate scores to correspond to the much more expensive professional examinations. Victor Serebriakoff, honorary president of the Mensa organization, an international organization whose members score in the top 2 percent on the intelligence test, anticipated the interest in human intelligence and responded with these self administered examinations. The I.Q. or intelligence quotient is often confusing and misunderstood. Serebriakoff contends that the term should never have become popular. Measuring an adult's I.Q. is not nearly as effective as measuring the I.Q. of a child. The I.Q., Serebriakoff explains, is simply the mental age multiplied by 100 and divided by the actual age. By this method, the average I.Q. is 100. There are, however, many differing results on this scale and it is said that a percentile ranking is a more accurate means of measurement than the traditional I.Q. point system. Included in this evaluation are two tests consisting of three sections. Verbal sections use tools like synonyms, antonyms and analogies to evaluate verbal aptitude. The number test requires the evaluation of other terms to form a relationship and complete the ' series. The complete evaluation is the spatial portion, consisting of analogies, reflections and rotations.
